Quietly as if maybe they couldn’t see or hear me, I sat down in the plush chair and leaned back hoping it would swallow me whole after hearing what my father just said.

I looked back and forth between my parents. The disappointment in their faces hurt more than the anger. There would be no trust from my father now.

Levi had to have been the one to tell him, but why? Would does he gain from this?

“Do you have nothing to say?” my father continued in that gruff firm tone that always made me feel like shrinking into myself further.

All of a sudden the alcohol I had consumed hit me and my head exploded into a throbbing spinning mess.

“Let me put it this way if I don’t get an explanation…,”

“I wanted a little fun it was exciting to date the bad boy,” I blurted out interrupting my father thanks to the spinning of my head.

I heard my mother sigh and looking up in her general direction, I could have sworn I saw a little smirk on her face but I could not be sure.

“So putting my business, our livelihood in jeopardy meant nothing to you, if he wants to that boy can go to my superiors and possibly get the home shut down for my negligence when a non-resident is in the home. I trusted you Abi to help me there not fraternize,”

My father’s voice rose with every word and I cringed when he abruptly stood up and began to pace. He was very angry and my answer was definitely not good enough.

“I’m sorry dad he grabbed me and pulled me into a supply closet I guess he doesn’t like that I ended the…the relationship, Jon found me and got me out of there before Levi could take it further,”

“He assaulted you? Tonight?” my father flashed my mom a glaring look, “I can’t deal with this right now Abi, we’ll talk tomorrow,”

He stomped out of the room and out the back door slamming it shut which made me jump. I stared at my hands plying with them twirling them back and forth and glanced up at my mom, who was watching me with an observant eye.

“This can bring a lot of trouble for his license to run the home Abigail,”

“I know,”

“A non-resident fraternizing and then assaulted by a resident while in the home can shut Nathan down and Levi will have new charges added to his record did you not think about the other lives you were meddling with including your own or just thought you would have some fun,”

“I didn’t know all that or think Levi would be so possessive and cruel,”

“He is in a group home Abigail for breaking the law in some way of course he can be cruel and dangerous,”

Tears began to fall down my cheeks. I have hurt everyone with this one secret. I possibly could have caused my dad to lose everything that he built, Jon possibly broke up with me, and Tony was in the dog house with his brother because he knew about this.

“You’re not a stupid girl Abi but this was really…I don’t even know what to say…I sympathize though,”

I looked at my mom confused.

“I was young once and so was your father he forgets sometimes now that he has been a dad for so long what it was like, what we went through,” her voice trailed off into her own memories.

We sat there in silence for a few minutes both with our own thoughts. What struck me was what worried me the most besides potentially ruining my father’s career was how badly this hurt Jon. My mother was right, I am not stupid, I was being very selfish for what I did, and I was definitely going to pay for it.
