Jonathan’s POV

What? Abi? Live with me?

I think my heart stopped in my chest.

“First rule, there will be no sleeping in the same room.”

I covered my face pretending to be surprised as I smirked happily.

“Lily or Brandon will always be up until one of you is asleep.”

I caught my mom rolling her eyes as she stood beside Nathan. Dawn smacked her arm lightly. I swallowed the chuckle that tried to escape as I watched my mom shrug her shoulders silently mouthing ‘what’.

“This arrangement is temporary until Levi is caught and Abi will be right back here so don’t get comfortable, either of you.”

Abi was going to live with me for at least a week, I assumed.

“If any extra curriculum activities occur and Lily has promised to keep an eye out for them and will enlist Shannon’s help if necessary…” Whoa, Nathan meant business and I saw Abi scowl. “Severe consequences will be given out.”

“Jeez Nathan it’s not like you’re sending her to boot camp she’s stayed at our home lots of times before,” my mom blurted out. Nathan glared at her.

“They have never been romantically involved during those times.”

“You are one to talk,” Abi’s mom spoke up quietly. Everyone turned to look at her but she avoided all our eyes as she smiled.

“Thanks for the support darling.”

“Anytime.” She leaned over and kissed Nathan’s cheek. Abi giggled quietly from where she sat in front of me as I stood behind her and squeezed her shoulder gently where my hand rested showing her my amusement as well.

The excitement that I would have her near all the time was overwhelming me despite the seriousness of the issue as to why she would be. Maybe I could find a way to tell her…

“Do you two understand?” Nathan addressed Abi and me.

“Yes sir.”

“Yeah dad.”

“Okay, Abi you will pack tonight and tomorrow you will go. I don’t want to do this and inconvenience you and Jon’s family but your safety is my concern,” Nathan’s tone was always so serious.

“I know dad and I’ll behave, I promise.”

“I’ll be a gentleman,” I said sincerely.

Nathan nodded and turned to Dawn. I could see him let down his walls with her as he turned. The stress was in the lines of his face. I hoped I wouldn’t disappoint him or my own family.

Monique was called back into the kitchen as the dinner activities resumed and Abi helped Greg to the table. I watched her and could see the love and admiration for her grandfather all over her face. I was not close like that to my grandparents, but I also did not live with mine. I wondered who would watch over him while she was at my place.

Just as Lily set the smothered pork chops on the table the front door opened and Shannon walked into the kitchen a few moments later.

“Now who acts like they own the place,” Abi muttered. I patted her knee under the table.

Curiously, I watched as Shannon walked right up to Nathan and whispered something in his ear, to which he got up quickly and left the room going out the front door for a moment. Lily glared at Shannon who ignored the look.
