I leaned back in the bus seat I sat in next to Jon as he clicked away on his laptop. The trip was over and the class was returning home.

The BBQ yesterday was fun, but most the time spent was spent packing and loading luggage onto the bus, obviously except what we needed for the morning and ride home. We would be back in time for the weekend, almost a whole week off of school since we left on a Tuesday. It was now Friday.

I texted my dad to tell him we were on our way home once we got on the road. I did not get a reply, but that wasn’t surprised since I knew he was at work.

My head lulled against Jon’s shoulder while I watched him play his video game. We were tired, but not as much as we were at the start of this trip. I certainly would be glad to sleep in my own bed again. The trip had been fun and I didn’t really want it to end, even though it was just a school trip.

The time and privacy I had with Jon has been wonderful. The drawing I made of him seemed to mean so much to him. I set it and sealed this morning. He had requested to take it home with him and I had no objection despite the lack of current drawings in my own portfolio. In fact, I was surprised I had gotten accepted into a school so quickly like the San Francisco Academy in the first place.

Still, I was glad to be going home. During the BBQ as well Mrs. Davis gave everyone a long speech for making the trip a success and she looked forward to our project presentations after the winter break.

“What are you thinking about?” Jon knocked my head on his shoulder gently with his.

“Just how awesome the trip was, but I’ll be glad to sleep in my own bed.” I chuckled.

“Yeah same here.” He turned pecking a small kiss on my forehead.

The rest of the ride home flew by. The time always did when you were on your way home from something or someplace fun. School was still in session when we arrived but parents for our class were standing all around in the parking lot.

I spotted Lily by her big SUV. Both my parents were at work so Lily was picking both Jon and I up. This had already been planned.

We waited before getting up and off the bus ourselves from the crowd that jumped up everyone shoving to get off and go home to start their weekend. It gave Jon some time to put his laptop away. Once the crowd of students thinned, we grabbed our carry-ons and exited down the steps only to see another line had formed for luggage.

I waited in that line while Jon went to the other side to retrieve the camping gear that was his and the telescope. Once I got my suitcases I trudged over to Lily.

“How was the trip?” She picked up one of my suitcases putting it in the back of the SUV as we waited for Jon.

“It was fun. Jon and I saw a lot of the meteor shower,” I said happily.

“And…” She gave me a knowing look that I just smiled at Lily. Jon had come over to us by then with the camping gear and his telescope.

“It’s all safe, no damage,” he replied to a look his mother gave him.

“Good this thing is expensive,” Lily muttered. Jon walked back to the bus to get his luggage and the charcoal I drew of him.

“What’s this?” Lily asked picking it up and taking a look. Her eyes widened and then her face wrinkled into a smile.

“Well done Abi,” she said quietly.

“Thanks.”

We finished pacing up the car and took off towards home, the short ride that it was. They both helped bring my things into an empty house. I didn’t feel like being alone though.
