Normani's pov

My dad ran a stop light and got t-boned. Everyone kept talking about how surprised they were that he was still alive. His injuries were severe. He had a severe traumatic brain injury, seven broken bones, and his body was covered in bruises. He had just got out of surgery, and they had to put him in a medically induced coma. We were at the hospital waiting for him to get better, so we could slowly wean him off the heavy medication. My big sister, Megan, was the dean of medicine here, so she had been overseeing everything. My mom was on her way here from Japan.

"Come on Mani. Let's go to my office." Megan said, pulling me up and walking me to her office. She pulled out a seat for me, and I sat down. My sister was used to comforting people, so it was not all that surprising that she was calm right now. However, I did think that she was putting on a brave face for me. She sat down at her desk and typed for a few seconds then clicked a few times before her computer started to speak Japanese.

Was she serious? I was going out of my mind, and she was watching anime. "This can't be real Megan. Dad's going to be okay right?"

"Only time will tell, Mani. All we could do was wait. His injuries were severe. It's a miracle that he is still alive." She opened her desk and pulled out two rice Krispy treats. She tossed one to me before going back to her show.

I smacked the treat across the room. "I am not hungry. What if he doesn't make it? What will that do to mom? She will be devastated."

"I know but we can't think like that. I've seen people who have survived much worse. You have to calm down a bit."

I stood up. "Calm down a bit? Bitch, our Dad is on his way to the fucking graveyard. He has been drinking again hasn't he?"

She ignored my outburst. "It seems that way. His blood alcohol content was high." She paused her show.

I paced back and forth. "He promised us that he would stop. How could he do this to us? Eleven years of sobriety down the drain just like that. Damn it! He's not going to be the same if or when he wakes up is he?"

"No. No, he's not. His traumatic brain injury caused several brain bleeds." She explained.

A knock at the door interrupted us.

"Come in." She yelled and I stopped pacing.

Dinah and Ally walkedin. "Hey, sorry to interrupt but they said that we could find you here. How is he doing?" Dinah asked, hugging me first then hugging Megan.

"He is stable and resting. It is just a waiting game now." Megan answered as she hugged Ally.

"How are you holding up? Is there anything we can do?" Ally asked the two sisters.

"We are fine. Yall just continue to pray for him." Megan answered again.

"Who is handling the case?" Dinah said, picking up the treat from earlier.

"Chloe and Halle from the 727. They were the first officers on the scene. Victoria, Lauren, Tori, and Zendaya are working with them to catch the driver." I spilled.

"They get any leads?" Ally asked, leaning on Megan's chair.

"Nope. Last I heard, they were waiting for the footage from the traffic light and the surveillance camera from across the street. I answered, sitting back down.

"Okay I'm going to go help them." Dinah stated as she headed toward the door.

"Could you stay? You and daddy talked about everything. Maybe you can answer some of my questions?" I asked Dinah who had her hand on the door knob.
