Dinah's point of view
I couldn't believe that Normani beat me up. I was so ashamed. I didn't even get a good hit on her. I never would have expected for her to fight me. Never! I met with my lawyers afterwards, and we were going to end her career. No one messed with me, and thought that they could get away with it. I got something for her.
"Damn, she fucked you up! Did you even get a chance to hit her?" Lauren dabbed some neosporin onto my busted lip.
"No, she sucker punched me! That bitch completely threw me off my game." I snapped.
"Why did she attack you?" She eyed me suspiciously.
I knew exactly why but I couldn't let Lauren know what I had done to Normani's office and car. I shrugged. "No clue! I was at Camila's-."
Lauren shook her head. "I'm going to stop you right there. If you want Ally back, why were you at Camila's? Were yall still sleeping around with each other?"
"Yeah." I admitted. I knew it was bad to keep Camila around, but we were not doing anything wrong. We were both single. "I have needs too. Ally has Normani. What? I'm supposed to be celibate while I wait for her?"
"I guess not, but you will have a better chance at getting Ally back if she knew that you were not sleeping with the woman you cheated on her with." She smacked the back of my head. "I hope Normani smacked some sense into you."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "How would she know?"
She looked at me like I was dumb. "Normani showed up to her house with Kehlani while you were there. My God! When it comes to relationships, you were really pathetic."
"Ouch. Way to kick a man while they are down." I grumbled.
"Go talk to your therapist about it. Oh wait," She snapped her fingers together. "You don't have one because you refuse to just pick one on the list."
"I don't need therapy." I stood up. I really did, but what if the therapist realized how insecure I was. I did not want anyone to know how afraid I was of my father.
"But you do!" She yelled at me. "Especially if you want to be a detective again. Chief Knowles isn't going to be patient with you for long. She will have to fire you."
She was right. Maybe that was what I wanted. I shrugged. "Maybe I shouldn't be a detective anymore. It's not the same without chief Hamilton. He understood me." I was on an excellent career path. He always knew that I would be the youngest chief.
"You shouldn't." Lauren agreed.
I looked at her confused. She was my best friend. She was supposed to be telling me not to do this. She was supposed to be building me up, not helping to tear me down. "Wow! What the fuck, Lauren?"
"What? Isn't that what you wanted to hear?" She folded her arms.
I glared at her. I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing came out. She laughed at my response, so I called her a bitch. She was smiling smugly at me because she knew that she won our little debate.
My phone rang, and I looked at the caller ID. It was my dad. I answered the phone. "Hello." I walked out of my bathroom, leaving Lauren to do whatever she wanted.
"I told you to get Ally back. You don't understand how much this wedding could help me during the election cycle. I could be the mayor. Your father could be the mayor. Isn't that exciting?" He asked. I decided to keep quiet. I didn't care if he was the mayor or not. He was still a terrible father. "Don't worry about getting Ally back. I had decided to take care of the matter on my own."
"What did you do dad?" My voice cracked. I was so scared for Ally.
"Don't worry. I won't harm her." He hung up the phone on me, leaving me to my thoughts. I didn't trust him. I had to warn, Ally.
"What's wrong?" Lauren asked me. Her face was laced with concern.
"That was my dad." I answered. I had to tell Lauren everything.
"Why do you look so scared? Did he threaten you?" Lauren grabbed my arm and sat me down in the nearest chair.
I shook my head. "Not me. I think he is going to hurt Ally."
"Why would he do that?" Lauren sat down beside me.
I sighed, collecting my thoughts. "He is running for mayor. The Hernandez' were known to be the standard in the business world. If he can get this marriage back on track, he will have their support which would be extremely helpful in getting votes from the rich. The night of the auction, he told me that I had to get Ally back no matter what. I didn't know what to do, so I tried to get rid of Normani."
Lauren's mouth popped open, her eyes widened with shock. She pointed at me. "You vandalized her car and her office?"
I nodded. I was surprised that people had already heard about her office. "How did you know about that?"
"Because she is the district attorney! Everyone knows that she is a huge target for hate crimes. What the fuck, Dinah?" She shook her head, trying to understand my confession.
"I knew what I did was bad, but I was trying to get Ally back. couldn't you understand?" I pleaded.
"By breaking the law?" She scoffed. "The laws that you swore to protect. You were nothing but a bad cop, a crappy friend, a shitty girlfriend, and a terrible human being. I spent so many hours defending you that me and TorI had almost broken up before. I'm done defending you. No more, Dinah." She stood up and grabbed her coat.
"Where were you going?" I followed her.
She turned around abruptly. "To apologize to my girlfriend for being a dumbass! She was right all along. You are a narcissist who can't take accountability for your own actions."
"Don't leave Lauren." I ran in front of her, cutting off her path to the door.
She stepped up to me. "Move Dinah." Her voice was eerily calm. "Don't make me move you." She balled up her fists. Her nostrils flaring and her eyes showed nothing but rage.
I was not interested in fighting. I already got beat up today. Didn't want to go through that again. "I need you! I'm taking accountability right now. Just help me find Ally. I need to know that she is safe."
She huffed and turned away from me, walking further into my house. "I'm staying until we find Ally. Then I was done with you." Lauren pulled out her phone to call Ally. It went straight to voice-mail. She tried calling Tori but the line was busy. "Do you know where she lives?"
I nodded. "I do but she isn't home. She hasn't been there since I broke Normani's window."
Her eyebrows knitted together. "How would you know that?"
"Because I bugged her house." I frowned.
She laughed, but nothing about it was funny. It sounded like she was just forcing air out of her mouth because she couldn't believe what I just admitted to. "You did what? That is illegal, and you fucking know that! Where has she been staying since you know everything about Ally?"
I shrugged. "I don't know. I haven't figured that out yet. I assume that it is at Normani's house. I don't know where she lives."
"Tori does. She went there once with Ally." She dialed Tori's number again and this time the phone rang until it went to voice-mail. "We will just go to her house. Maybe she will be there."
"You don't know where your girlfriend is?" I raised an eyebrow.
"No! I don't track her like she is a child." She snapped. "I trust that she would never cheat on me. Something that I wished you would have done with Ally. We wouldn't even be like this."
"It's all my fault. I know! I know." Ally was in trouble and it was all my fault. I should have just trusted Ally all of those months ago, I shouldn't have cheated, and I should have been real with her. I was so afraid of losing her, and now I think I may lose her forever.
(A/n: Sorry it's so short. Next chapter will be longer.)
