Dinah's pov.
"Dinah! Oh goodness. Are you okay??" She rushed around the counter towards me. Her hands searched me to make sure I was okay.
"Yes, I'm fine." I tried to move her hand away but she popped my hand. "Ow! Well now my hand hurts." I frowned and I rubbed the back of my hand.
"Stop being a baby that didn't even hurt." She smiled "Are you sure nothing hurts?" She asked softly
"Yes" I smiled. "Luckily, I knew how to dip, duck, dive, and dash." I picked myself off of the floor and dusted myself off.
She chuckled but then she stopped and furrowed her eyebrows "Dinah, what are you doing in my house?" She put her hands on her hips.
I shook my head and tried to look at anything besides her. "I texted you that I was coming over. I have questions about the case. I stood out there for five minutes knocking. I could hear you singing and your door was unlocked. So I came in. I didn't expect you to be putting on a concert halfway dressed." Not that I mind. I scratched the back of my neck.
"Huh?" Suddenly, she was very aware that she was only in her boxers and a sports bra. She excused herself to go put on some clothes.
I found a mop and the dust pan to clean up the broken bottle from behind me. I laid the file out for her on her dining table. I always understood the file, but this was the only way that I could talk to her without my mind having impure thoughts or saying how I really felt about her. I wanted to make this marriage work. I wanted us to be exclusive, but I don't think that she saw me that way. I saw how she looked at D.A. Hamilton. I could see why. Normani was fierce and smart and fine as fuck. She could have anyone she wanted. I just hope she never goes after Ally.
She came back with some shorts and a tank top on. She looked embarrassed. "Sorry about almost sending you on an one trip to the graveyard earlier. I should have checked my phone. Thanks for cleaning that up for me."
"No problem. It was my fault that you wasted a bottle of wine. I should be the one apologizing. I should have called to let you know that I was on your porch before I entered. But I'm not because I enjoyed every second of the show." I covered my mouth with my hand. "Shit. I didn't mean to say that last part out loud." Great! Now I sounded like a real creep.
She was blushing so hard right now. "Um it's okay. I guess. Let's get started on those questions. Shall we?" She motioned for me to sit.
"Yes please." I sat down at the table.
We talked for about an hour and I started to pack everything up. "Dinah, how do you stay so strong when you're telling a parent that their child is dead? I wanted to cry with her. To tell her everything is going to be okay. To break something."
"I detach myself from the situation. At that moment, I was a rock. No emotions. But when I get home, I let it all out. I have a punching bag that I will let all of my anger out on. And if the case is really bad, I may build something." I shove the rest of my files into my bag. "So how do you let out your frustration and anger?"
Ally gave me a lopsided smile. "You will have to show me one day soon. Well I'm kinda embarrassed about mine but I sing and dance around the house. I lose myself in the music."
"And when it's really bad?" I questioned.
"I may write a song if it's really bad." She shrugged.
"You are a really good singer. Maybe one day you could show me one of your songs?" I fiddled with the strap on my bag.
"I don't know. Maybe. I'll show you one of my songs if you show me something you've built." She sipped her wine.
"Well Hernandez, you have a deal" I extended my hand.
"Deal" She shook my hand.
"Well I should get going and leave you to it. Next time I'll call first." I yawned.
"Yeah. It's late. Why don't you stay the night? I have the guest bedroom." She offered.
I really hate driving at night. I may as well get used to sharing a space with her. Even if it was only for one night. "Sure, I can leave early and change my clothes before work. Thanks Ally."
She gave me a genuine smile. "Anytime Hansen. I have some oversized t-shirts that you can sleep in."
"Oh don't worry, I have some extra clothes in my car for when I have to work late. I'll be right back." I got my stuff out of my car and sat it in the room.
I saw that Ally was sitting on the bed with an extra toothbrush, a towel, and a rag. "Hey let's watch a movie together before bed?" She asked.
I agreed and she left me to shower.
I stepped into the shower and let the hot water relax me. Dinah what were you thinking coming here? Those questions could have waited til tomorrow. She's never going to love you, so why are you going to try? I sighed and got out of the shower. I put on a t-shirt and some boy shorts.
I walked to the living room where Ally was pouring popcorn into a bowl. She looked at me. "Hey, you want to watch th-" her voice trailed off as she looked me up and down. She licked her lips before clearing her throat. "The cheetah girls?" She pointed to the TV.
I perked up hearing that. "Can we watch the second one instead?"
"Of course. It's better than the first one anyways." She giggled.
"Do you have a blanket? I'm cold." I sat on the opposite couch cushion giving her plenty of space.
"I bet. I mean. Yeah, we can share." She got up to find a blanket. When she came back she practically sat on top of me. We were singing, laughing, and watching the movie but I couldn't get comfortable with Ally so close to me. I guess she noticed because she paused the movie and stood up. "Lay down."
Lay down? For what? "Why?" I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Because you're uncomfortable so we are trying a new position." She said in a duh tone.
"Oh okay." I laid down on my back like she told me to. She spread my legs apart and laid between them. Her head was on my chest. This has got to be the worst position ever, and I think she agreed because she slid off of me towards the front of the couch. I turned to the side and she did the same. Her back was on my front. Before fixing the covers she grabbed my hand and put it on her stomach. I pulled her closer so her back was touching my front. She hummed constantly. We fit so perfectly together. I could get used to this. We watched the rest of the movie before saying good night and heading to bed.
The next morning I was woken by a phone call.
"Detective Hansen" I answered.
"It's Chief Hamilton. I need you in the office now!" The line went dead.
