Chapter One

"Start"

•

Darkness. It was the first thing I remembered. The cold and suffocating feeling felt like it was crushing my heart. I felt alone. I was scared.

"Doctor, he's waking up."

I heard footsteps closing in, my heartbeat fastened. I pushed myself to sit up as the nurse rushed to my side. "Sir, you don't need to rush, please rest," she said, placing her hand over my chest and lightly pushing me back onto the bed.

I moved her hand away, trying to sit straight. "No... no, I... I have something important to do," I whispered hesitantly, looking at the white wall. My forehead furrowed as I took in the place I was in. "Where am I...?" I breathed out questioningly.

"You're in the hospital. You've been asleep for a week," the doctor informed me, examining my expression.

I blinked at him, more questions flooding my mind. I simply closed my eyes and tried to recollect any past occurrence that could lead me to where I am now. Instead of getting an answer, I got a massive headache. I scrunched my face in pain.

"I suggest you get more rest, Mr. Kim," the doctor recommended.

I looked at him questioningly. "Mr. Kim?"

"Yes, you are Kim Taehyung," the doctor said with a worried smile. "It's a miracle you didn't suffer any serious injuries, considering you were near the side of the bus when a van crashed into it."

Bus?

"Anyway, there's no rush in remembering Mr. Kim. We'll see you later." He turned away but quickly looked back at me, "Oh and We'll also inform your lover."

I couldn't speak. My mind went blank. I heard the door shut. Knowing they had left, I shakily got out of bed. My feet were heavy as I dragged myself to the bathroom. I turned the doorknob with a shaky hand and noticed my complexion had turned a few shades darker. My heartbeat fastened. I quickly ran inside.

I stood in front of the mirror, and my jaw dropped.

"Who are you?"

⸻

Jimin was happy. He received a call from the doctor that his boyfriend had finally regained consciousness. He walked through the corridor with a wide smile. His boyfriend had been in the hospital for a week; he had been in a coma.

Once he stood in front of the room his boyfriend was in, he didn't waste time and bolted inside. He was greeted with silence—and an empty bed.

"Tae?"

⸻

"Hyung!" There was a loud knock on the door. It shocked Namjoon so much that he broke his sunglasses. He cursed mentally and threw them into the trash bin before proceeding to open the door. Before he could even realize who the person was, he was greeted with a tight hug. The top of the other's hair tickled his nose.

"Hyung!" the other cried out once more, burying his head in Namjoon's chest.

"Jimin, what's the matter?" he asked with concern as he felt his shirt get wet. Jimin cried, clutching the back of the taller man's shirt with his hands. "I hope these are tears of happiness—that Taehyung's finally awake..."

Jimin slowly looked up with tear-strained eyes. "They said they didn't know where he went off to... He just disappeared." He blinked as fresh tears cascaded down his already rosy cheeks. Namjoon's heart ached at the sight.

He slowly shook his head in confusion. "He just disappeared? Just like that?"

Jimin nodded. "But he... he contacted me... I—I think I sent him a hundred text messages, wondering where he went. Hyung, I told him that it's okay, but I wished he'd tell me. I hate not knowing things about him! I hate that he's been distancing himself from me for the last month! I... I just don't understand him anymore... Here I was, so worried sick about him because he got into an accident just after our fight. But I thought... I thought he'd be happy to see me..." Jimin whimpered, wiping his tears as he continued, "I told him it's okay now. Just... just come home to me because I'll... wait."

Namjoon sighed. "Why don't you stay here for the night? I'll make some food for you. I'll watch over you until you fall asleep," he offered with a sincere and concerned expression. Jimin didn't have the energy to refuse.

After eating the simple dinner Namjoon had cooked, he watched as Jimin slowly drifted to sleep. He leaned against the doorframe as he turned the light off. He wondered why Taehyung would go to this extent to hurt Jimin. He knew Taehyung was starting to question his love for Jimin. He wasn't sure if he wanted to continue his relationship with him. Just like any other normal relationship out there—you love each other so much, everything seems perfect, then all of a sudden, in a snap, everything changes.

"Maybe I just need time," Taehyung murmured.

"Do you not love him anymore?" Namjoon asked as he stared at his friend. "You've been together for more than five years. That's not something you can throw away so easily."

"I know." Taehyung sighed, closing his eyes. "...I love him. I love him so much." He breathed out, looking up at the night sky. "But I forgot how to love myself... I don't know what I want for myself."

Namjoon quirked an eyebrow. "That's why you want to break up?"

"Why? Is that too naive?" Taehyung asked.

Namjoon shook his head. "He'll get hurt. He'll cry. Don't you hate it when he cries?"

Taehyung smiled. "I hate it. It always makes me run back to him." He paused for a moment, his eyes far too distant.

"I always end up going back to him."

Namjoon pressed his temples. "You idiot," he whispered. He took one last look at Jimin before closing the door. He wished he knew what Taehyung was doing so he could reassure Jimin. But even he couldn't understand Taehyung.

All he could really do was watch over Jimin.
