Chapter Thirty-Two

"Secret Admirer"

Four years ago

Namjoon adjusted his tie, a drop of sweat falls from his forehead. "Ah shit, I almost died." He was exasperated, he looks at his worn-out reflection in the mirror. He had just given the closing argument and currently waiting for the decision of the judge. It was the first case he had taken, and it was nerve-wracking. He hopes he had presented enough evidence for his client.

"Hi."

Namjoon looks at the man beside him in the mirror, he knew him. "You are?"

The man smiles at him, "Jeon Jungkook, I saw your conviction and dedication earlier, despite your client being guilty there isn't much you can do if he didn't tell you all there is to know regarding his case. I know you could have built a stronger argument."

Namjoon looks at him with confusion, "Why are you here?"

Jungkook turns his body, so he is facing Namjoon, "I'm here to offer you a job. As a corporate lawyer of the Jeon Company." He offers a handshake, "I can give a competitive salary with all the benefits."

Namjoon sucked an ample amount of air through his teeth, "This isn't a scam, right?"

Jungkook chuckles taking back his hand and touches the tip of his nose. "Why, don't you know me?"

Of course, Namjoon knew him. It all started when Jimin called him the day they were bound to leave for the US, Jimin was crying that day and was begging him to be picked up at a certain location. Namjoon panicked upon hearing Jimin's cries so he hurries to where he is. Jimin bolted outside of a huge gate, Namjoon was completely confused as to why his friend was at a mansion, but he couldn't ask because Jimin was a crying mess.

He did his own investigation and found out that the owner of the house was a young tycoon by the name of Jeon Jungkook. His father was a multi-millionaire and died of a sudden heart attack. Jungkook was announced as the successor before the incident, so nobody knew who the boy was. He wonders how Jimin ended up in a place like that.

Hoseok would refer to the unknown suitor of Jimin as the 'secret admirer'. Namjoon doesn't think he is unknown at all but if his conclusions are correct, he keeps quiet. Honestly, he's thankful that someone had help Jimin to have courage.

Namjoon clears his throat, he hums in deep thought, "Do you know Jimin?" He asks suddenly and Jungkook was clearly caught off guard by the question, but he was quick to regain his composure.

"I see. Are you curious as to how I knew him?" Jungkook asks, Namjoon merely stares at him in the eyes. "We had a... relationship but it wasn't official." He tries to explain.

Namjoon opens his mouth, quite baffled at the revelation. "Does that mean he cheated on Taehyung?" He asks almost scoffing at his own question. It was ridiculous because Jimin would never cheat.

"It wasn't his fault." Jungkook defends as he looks away, "Anyway, the offer is still on the table, so if you want to accept just contact me." He gives him a side glance then starts to walk away.

Namjoon spots a business card on the sink and picks it up. He raffles his hair as he looks at the card. He wonders why Jungkook was offering him a job, he is just a rookie anyway. Working for a well-established company is way out of his league, he still has a lot to learn. For some reason, he wants to try anyway.
