Chapter Twenty-four
"Sojourn"
•
Jungkook finishes his meal in silence, methodically wiping the corner of his lips with a napkin as though the gesture itself needs discipline. The dining table stretches endlessly before him, polished to a hollow shine. He glances toward the far end, the seat that remains untouched, unused.
How he wishes Jimin was here with him—but instead, the house swallows the quiet whole. No laughter. No footsteps. Just emptiness echoing back at him.
Before arriving, he had instructed Yoongi to fire every maid and helper in the mansion. No witnesses. No interruptions. He feels miserable.
Footsteps approach. He looks up to see Yoongi, followed closely by Taehyung, whose irritation is barely restrained. Their presence cuts through the stillness.
"Did you cook your food?" Yoongi asks.
"Surprising, huh?" Jungkook scoffs as he rises from his seat, pushing the chair back with a muted scrape. "Did you find it?"
Yoongi nods. "I sent you all the copies I was able to get." Taehyung remains oblivious, his brows knitting in faint confusion.
"And?" Jungkook presses, impatience threading his voice, thin but unmistakable.
"You were right," Yoongi says, glancing briefly at Taehyung. "Taehyung's friends were the ones driving the van that day."
"What?" Taehyung asks sharply, eyes flicking to Yoongi.
"They were the ones who crashed into the side of the bus. I also found their van abandoned at a junk shop. It wasn't registered to any of them. They knew the blind spot—that's why the police didn't find it." Yoongi pauses before adding calmly, "I got lucky when I followed Ji-won."
Taehyung shakes his head hard. "There's no fucking way! You said it yourself—there's no CCTV, right? It's a blind spot!"
Yoongi scoffs. "What do you think I did?"
Taehyung's jaw tightens, teeth grinding. "You threatened him?"
"I merely pointed my gun at him, and he started to talk like a bitch." Yoongi laughs. Taehyung's hands curled into a fist.
"That's enough," Jungkook says, his tone bored, detached. "Taehyung, whether you believe him or not is up to you. But I'll forward what we found to the authorities—anonymously."
"Yeah, sure. Easy for you!" Taehyung snaps.
Jungkook looks away, uninterested. "We're not friends. I have no reason to care how you feel—especially since they're your friends."
"I know," Taehyung sneers. "You don't have friends."
Jungkook sighs, "Are you referring to the friends who tried to kill you? then no thanks."
Taehyung turns to him with murderous intensity. "You're heartless. You know that, right? You planned on hurting Jimin. You didn't even consider his feelings when you pretended to be me."
"Pretended?" Jungkook turns back, incredulous. "So we're just going to forget that you agreed to our conditions when you acted as me? Fuck—my feelings for Jimin are sincere."
