Chapter Fifteen

"Selfish"

•

Where was I that fateful day? What was I doing?

Ah. I remember.

I ran away.

My name is Jeon Jungkook, and at the age of twenty, I am the youngest—and the only—heir of the Jeon Corporation.

He wasn't supposed to be the heir. He was an outsider, an illegitimate child. But by some twisted fate, the son who was bound to inherit the company died in a tragic plane crash.

His hatred for his father was the only reason he accepted the role. It was meant to spite him. Jungkook wanted to be the cause of the company's downfall—that was his plan. But before he could carry it out, his father died of a sudden heart attack.

He was devastated—not because his father was gone, but because he had lost the chance to avenge his mother. Jungkook had wanted to make his father beg for mercy, to plead for the company's survival. But it never happened, and it never would.

What was the point of it all?

After a few months, he had enough.

He ran away—not in a car, but on foot. Once he was far from the mansion, he took a bus. With no belongings, he boarded one headed for the train station. He sat beside a man wearing a hoodie pulled low over his face, clutching a bag tightly to his chest.

Was he on the run too?

He didn't care. He just wanted a different life. To be someone else.

And maybe that was exactly what was given to him.

"Wake up, Tae!"

He heard the worry in his lover's voice before he could fully open his eyes. Jimin hovered above him, sleep still clinging to his features, his face slightly swollen. Even so, he was beautiful.

"Hi, pretty," he greeted softly, his voice still hoarse from sleep.

"Taehyung, you were having a bad dream!" Jimin exclaimed. He noticed the smaller hand pressed over his chest and reached out to hold it.

"Was I?" he murmured. "I'm fine now." He turned his head to glance at the window. It was still dark. "What time is it?"

"It's only three in the morning," Jimin replied. "Do you want anything?"

He shook his head. "Did I scare you?"

Jimin nodded. "Do you remember the bad dream you were having?"

He did. It truly was a bad dream.

"No."

"Oh." Jimin nodded once more. "Should we try to sleep again?"

"Yes. I'll just get some water downstairs and be back," Taehyung said.

"Be quick!"

Taehyung only sends him a smile before quickly grabbing his phone from the side table. He hurried downstairs; he had turned his phone off once they went inside the house yesterday. He knew Taehyung would call him repeatedly if he didn't answer—and he was right, as apparent from the fifty missed calls recorded on his screen.

He turned on the faucet in the kitchen and called Taehyung. Even though it was three in the morning, Jungkook didn't think it would matter, judging by how angry he was.
