Chapter Twenty-Seven

"Smoke"

♣

Jungkook walked inside the mansion, with Yoongi trailing behind him.

"Should I rehire your helpers?" Yoongi asked.

"Yes," Jungkook answered as he looked around. "Did Taehyung contact you?"

"No. Why?" Yoongi asked.

Jungkook shook his head and proceeded upstairs, walking directly to his workplace—the room where he remembered falling asleep the night before returning to his body.

"Can I assist you with anything else?" Yoongi asked.

"No, but if you want to stay, it's okay," Jungkook said, not minding Yoongi's presence in the big house.

When he opened the door to the room, his attention was immediately drawn to the mess scattered across the floor. He was taken aback for a moment, unsure if he should even step inside.

Yoongi, confused as to why Jungkook had suddenly frozen in place, peeked over his shoulder. His eyes landed on the ruined canvas lying at the center of the room. He gasped softly and shook his head, disbelief written all over his face at how shallow Taehyung had acted.

Jungkook walked over to the painting, crouched down, and lifted the canvas.

There were slashes all over it.

He was devastated.

Jungkook glanced at the shattered glass beneath his shoes. His wine glass—broken—had been used like a blade to cut through the canvas.

"Seriously?" he scoffed, shaking his head.

"Did Taehyung really do this?" Yoongi scowled, just as annoyed as Jungkook. "Is he a kid? How could he stoop this low? It's fucking petty."

Jungkook let out a loud breath. "I would have done the same."

Yoongi scoffed. "You wouldn't do that. You're not the same."

"But I wanted to steal Jimin from him," Jungkook said as he looked back at Yoongi. "Isn't that worse?"

Yoongi swallowed and remained silent.

Jungkook stood up, sliding his hands into his pockets. "I would have done worse than this if I were him. And I can get back at him too, if I want to."

"But you won't," Yoongi said, rolling his eyes.

It was obvious why Jungkook couldn't strike back. It was because he was in love with Taehyung's boyfriend.

Yoongi had once thought Jungkook was merely infatuated, but when he saw him standing in the crowd—staring at Jimin with longing eyes—he knew Jungkook was completely in love. And now, he felt bad for him as well.

It was fine with him that Jungkook had fallen in love, but the person wasn't just anyone. He really had to fall for someone who was already committed.

That wasn't fair.

"It will affect Jimin if I do anything that hurts Taehyung," Jungkook sighed heavily.

"Then what now?" Yoongi asked. "Should I retract the money you transferred to him?"

"No," Jungkook said firmly, looking straight at Yoongi. "I'll ignore him. I'll let them be."

Yoongi stared at him incredulously. Is this what falling in love does to a person? They just become unpredictable.

If this were the Jungkook from months ago, he would have ransacked the culprit's home just to piss him off—or worse, drained his bank account if he felt like it.
