MIA

I stared at my reflection in the floor length mirror. My make up and hair were all done, my dress fit me perfectly, the shade of my emerald green dress, complimented the smokey eye shade very well. I had decided to wear a pair of silver flats today, since I knew I would have to stand a lot. Aunt Madison appeared behind me, I stared at her reflection too. She looked lovely in her royal blue a-line, floor length, mermaid dress.

"You look amazing sweetheart," She hugged me from the side. I smiled, feeling my inside contacting.

"Are the guest here yet?" I asked.

"Yeah, they've started arriving, Ryan's here," She playfully nudged me and I shook my head. I wasn't really nervous about seeing him, having destiny not make us mates was the explanation I guess, I wasn't affected by his presence as a mate is affected by their other half. It will probably change after he marks me, then his presence will affect me but for now, I was happy this way; without being bothered by anyone's scent or a mere touch.

"Where's mother?" I asked, ignoring her teasing.

"She's with your father, greeting the guests," She pointed at the floor, she meant downstairs. I nodded my head, taking a seat on my bed, there was a knock on my door and I looked up to see Jade standing there in a black, fill sleeved dress, it had a slit on one side and the dress fit around her body perfectly.

"Hi," I stood and hugged her. It had taken a lot of convincing my father to let Jade and Elliot come. I wanted them to be here for me, they're my best friends.

"I saw Ryan," She said after greeting me.

"He's already here?" I furrowed my brows.

"Considering the fact that you're supposed to go downstairs in fifteen minutes, it only makes senses for him to have arrived," She rolled eyes at me.

"Okay you two girls talk, I have to go downstairs," Aunt Madison excused herself, she just wanted to see Ryan up close and inspect him.

The engagement party was being held in the huge ballroom downstairs, it was barely used, mostly a few kids used it to play the piano. Other then that, I hadn't seen many people go in there.

"Any luck finding a job?" I asked Jade.

"I've applied a few places but so far, no response," She replied.

"Why don't you join Mason's office?" I suggested.

"We've already spoken about this Mia," She sighed. "Elliot and I, we don't want to be a part of any pack, our human like lives are peaceful," She stated firmly.

"You don't have to join our pack, I'll talk to Mason, I'm sure we can find some way for you to work and get a good pay without worrying about joining our pack," I shrugged.

"You can convince him?"

"I can try," I said. I mean how hard could it be? Sure they didn't have anyone from outside the pack working for them but Jade's my friend, and I have an equal right and say in father's business.

We had to go downstairs after a while, Mason met me at the bottom of the staircase and held my hand as we walked towards the ballroom. Jade had slipped away, ahead of us to find Elliot. The large doors of the ballroom were open, the interior was magnificent, and since it was evening and all the lights were turned on, it shone in a golden light. The crystal chandeliers mother had specially gotten for tonight created a classy and elegant feel to the room. My theme tonight was gold and emerald, it went quite well together. The light music played in the background as Mason led me towards Ryan who was standing near the flower arch that mother had specially gotten for him and I.
