Mia Grey, the twin sister of Meredith, has always lived in her sibling's shadow. While Meredith's life has unfolded in the public eye, Mia has quietly navigated her own path, shaped by her own dreams, struggles, and secrets. But as their lives inter...
I got a text for a consult and looked over at Teddy. "I have a consult. Are you going to be okay here?" I asked.
She nodded. "I love you."
"I love you too," I said, kissing her before heading out.
The consult didn't take long, and when I returned home and stepped inside, I immediately heard crying—both from Allison and Teddy. My heart clenched.
"Teddy?" I called out, quickly making my way upstairs.
When I reached our bedroom, I found Teddy sitting on the bed, tears streaming down her face as she held a fussing Allison in her arms. I gently took our daughter from her, instantly realizing she needed a diaper change.
"I'll take care of her," I reassured Teddy.
I bathed Allison, changed her into a fresh diaper, and warmed up a bottle of milk. Once she had eaten and was sound asleep, I carefully placed her in her crib before returning to our room. Teddy sat on the bed, her knees drawn to her chest, silent tears still falling.
I sat down in front of her, brushing away her tears. "What's wrong?" I asked softly.
She shook her head. "I can't do this, Mia... I'm not a good mother."
"Teddy..."
"I know you're going to say I'll learn, but it doesn't feel like I am," she admitted, her voice breaking.
I pulled her into a tight embrace, letting her cry on my shoulder. "You are my whole world, Teddy," I whispered, holding her close. When she finally pulled away, I wiped away her remaining tears and kissed her. She kissed me back, and in that moment, I wished I could take away all her doubts.
Two Months Later
Allison was growing so fast, and Teddy had become an incredible mother. We had both returned to work and hired a babysitter to help while we were gone. Things were falling into place, but I knew there was one more thing I wanted to do—I wanted to marry Teddy.
That morning, after checking in at the hospital, I sought out Owen and found him in the attendings' lounge.
"Dr. Hunt, I have a question for you," I said, my nerves bubbling to the surface.
Owen turned to face me and nodded. "Go ahead."
I took a breath. "I think you're the best person to ask this..." I hesitated for a moment.
"Just ask," Owen prompted, clearly curious.
"Can I have your blessing to marry Teddy?" I finally said, heart pounding.
Owen's face softened, and he smiled. "Of course," he said without hesitation.
Relief washed over me. "Thank you." We hugged briefly before he added, "Take care of her."
"I will," I promised.
Later that day, I went ring shopping, stopping at five different stores before finally finding the perfect one. After hiding it at home, I spent the rest of the day in surgeries, eager for the evening to come.
That night, I set up rose petals leading outside to a beautifully decorated space, a romantic setting under the stars. I changed into something nice, put Allison to bed, and waited.
When I heard the front door open, my heart raced. "Mia?" Teddy's voice carried through the house.
I quickly hid the ring in my pocket before stepping outside.
Teddy appeared in the backyard, her eyes scanning the setup. "What's all this?" she asked, smiling as she walked toward me.
I took her hands in mine. "You and Allison are the most important people in my life. You helped me through the darkest moments, and I love you more than anything. I want to spend my life with you."
I dropped to one knee and pulled out the ring. Teddy covered her mouth, tears welling in her eyes.
"Theodora Grace Altman, will you do me the honor of marrying me?"
Teddy's tears spilled over as she nodded frantically. "Yes!" she said, her voice thick with emotion.
I slipped the ring onto her finger before standing to kiss her, pouring all my love into that moment.
"I love you, Mia," Teddy whispered against my lips.
"I love you too."
She wrapped her arms around my neck, and I held her close. "This is the life I've always wanted. You, me, and Allison."
I smiled. "So... when should we tell everyone? Though Owen might already know."
Teddy pulled back slightly. "What?"
I grinned. "I knew he was the closest thing to family for you, so I asked for his blessing first."
Teddy's face softened, and she kissed me again. That kiss quickly deepened, and soon we were lost in each other. We spent the rest of the night wrapped in one another's arms, knowing our future was just beginning.
The Next Morning
Teddy and I woke up early, called Allison's nanny, and headed to the hospital. When we arrived, we found Meredith, Amelia, Alex, Jackson, April, Arizona, Jo, Owen, Bailey, and Webber all gathered in the attendings' lounge—a rare sight.
"Perfect," Teddy said, grinning. "Everyone in one room."
I smiled and took her hand. "We have news."
"We're getting married!" Teddy announced, holding up her hand to show the ring.
A chorus of congratulations erupted, and we were quickly surrounded by hugs. Meredith, Amelia, Arizona, Jo, April, and Bailey immediately crowded around to admire the ring.
"This is stunning," Arizona said, admiring the band.
"I'm jealous," Jo admitted with a smirk.
April's eyes lit up. "If you need help planning, I'm your girl! I'm really good at weddings—just give me the budget and a date."
Teddy and I exchanged a look before nodding. "Sure," we said in unison.
The rest of the day was busy with work, but by the evening, we officially agreed to have April as our wedding planner. When we got home, we spent time with Allison, cherishing every moment together.
As Teddy held our daughter, I couldn't help but smile. "How are you so beautiful?" I asked, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
Teddy blushed. "You don't understand how beautiful you are."
I leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her temple as she rested her head on my shoulder. We looked down at Allison, who gave us the biggest, sweetest smile.
"She's the cutest baby I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot of babies," I said with a grin.
Teddy chuckled. "Yeah, she is."
Later that night, after Teddy fed and put Allison to bed, we crawled into our own bed and fell asleep in each other's arms, our hearts full of love and excitement for everything to come.
