Mia's POV
I woke up early, knowing today was Teddy's day off. The hospital was busy as usual, and I powered through the first half of my shift. But then, I heard the distinct sound of a police siren outside. Curious, I stepped out and saw Amelia stepping out of a police car.
"Amelia, what's going on?" I asked, my heart picking up speed.
"Teddy's in labor," she said urgently.
Without hesitation, I rushed to Teddy's side, helping her into a wheelchair and guiding her to the delivery room. Once inside, I helped her change into a hospital gown and get comfortable on the bed just as Carina entered the room, already slipping on her gloves.
"Okay, Teddy, can you spread your legs for me?" Carina asked calmly.
Teddy did as instructed, gripping my hand tightly.
"Alright, you're progressing well. On your next contraction, I need you to push," Carina instructed.
A wave of pain hit Teddy, and she gasped. "Something's wrong! What's wrong?!"
I brushed her damp hair away from her face. "Nothing is wrong, Teddy. You're crowning. She's almost here."
Teddy tightened her grip on my hand. "Oh god!"
"Already?" I asked, surprised.
Carina nodded. "Sometimes, mothers with geriatric pregnancies—"
"Did you just say geriatric?" Teddy snapped, glaring at her through her pain.
Carina hesitated. "It's just a medical term."
"You're doing great, Teddy," I reassured her, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
"What you're feeling now is called the ring of fire," Carina added.
"Oh, fantastic," Teddy groaned. "Do I keep pushing?"
"Not yet. Wait until the next contraction," Carina instructed.
Teddy threw her head back, panting. "Oh my god, this hurts like hell."
"Our daughter is coming," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion.
"I know this is supposed to be a beautiful moment, but it hurts like a mother—" Teddy cried out before another contraction hit.
"Okay, push! You got this, baby!" I encouraged.
After an hour of pushing, Carina smiled. "Good, her head is halfway out. Just one more gentle push on the next contraction."
Teddy groaned. "I have to push now!"
"No, wait, or you'll tear," Carina warned. "Breathe. Thirty seconds."
"It hurts! I can't keep doing this!" Teddy sobbed.
I cupped her face. "You can do this, Teddy. You are strong. In just a few minutes, we'll be holding our daughter."
She nodded, gripping my hand as the final contraction hit. With one last push, our baby came into the world, filling the room with her first cries.
"Oh god," Teddy gasped, tears streaming down her face.
I kissed the top of her head. "She's beautiful. You did amazing."
Carina placed our daughter in Teddy's arms. "What's her name?"
"Allison," we both said at the same time. The name held so much meaning for Teddy, and I knew it was the only right choice for our child.
After they cleaned her up, they handed her back to us. Since Teddy had to stay in bed, I picked Allison up from her crib, marveling at how tiny she was. Her little fingers wrapped around my pinkie, and my heart melted.
"She's our daughter," Teddy whispered, eyes filled with love.
A soft knock at the door caught our attention, and Amelia and Owen stepped in.
"Oh my god, she's here!" Amelia gasped, hurrying over to see the baby.
Owen went to Teddy's side. "She's adorable," Amelia cooed, peering down at Allison.
"How are you feeling?" Owen asked Teddy.
"Tired, but Mia was an amazing support," Teddy said, smiling at me.
I squeezed her hand, overwhelmed with love for both of them.
Then, Bailey entered the room, all business as usual. "Grey, Shepherd, Hunt, I have incoming trauma."
"Well, I just had a baby," I pointed out.
"They just had a baby," Amelia echoed.
Bailey nodded. "Yeah, I'm aware. She's very cute. Congratulations. I still need you to come. Altman, you're excused."
"Wait, what? Are you serious?" Teddy asked, frowning.
Bailey sighed. "Due to criminal activity, Meredith Grey, Alex Karev, and Richard Webber no longer work here. Andrew DeLuca is in jail."
"WHAT?!" I exclaimed.
"What do you mean, criminal activity?" Amelia asked, but Bailey's pager went off.
"Incoming trauma. Now." And just like that, she was gone.
I turned back to Teddy. "You okay?"
She nodded. "Yeah, go. I'll be fine."
I kissed her softly before leaving with Owen and Amelia. "What do you think they did?" I asked as we hurried to the trauma bay.
"I have no idea," Amelia said.
Once we got the details, we confronted Bailey. "You fired them?" Owen asked.
"What was I supposed to do?" Bailey shot back.
"Anything but fire them!" Amelia and I said in unison.
After taking care of the trauma, I rushed back to Teddy's side.
"Hey, are you okay? How's Allison?" I asked, sitting beside her.
"She's good. I'm amazing, just really tired," Teddy admitted.
I smiled and took Allison into my arms. "Get some rest. I'll stay here."
Teddy gazed at me with tears in her eyes. "How did I deserve someone like you?"
I kissed her gently. "I'm the lucky one."
That night, I brought them both home, tucking them in before cleaning up. In the middle of the night, Allison's cries woke me. I kissed Teddy's forehead before heading to the nursery.
"Hi, baby girl," I murmured, rocking her gently. Once she fell asleep, I placed her back in her crib and returned to bed.
By morning, Teddy was already up. "Morning, beautiful," I said, stretching.
She smiled. "Morning."
Then, Allison started crying again. Teddy picked her up "I'm not good at this."
I walked over and took Allison from her arms. "Hey, it's okay. I made breakfast. Let's eat, and I'll help."
After a while, I fed Allison, and she settled down.
Teddy sighed. "I feel like a bad mother."
I took her hands in mine. "You're not a bad mother. You're a new mother. You're learning. And I'll be here with you every step of the way."
She met my eyes, then leaned in and kissed me. "Thank you."
I smiled against her lips. "Always."
