Mia's POV - Five Weeks

I woke up early and took a quick shower before heading straight to the hospital. Once there, I changed into my scrubs and buried myself in the mountain of paperwork waiting for me. Time passed faster than I expected, and before I knew it, lunchtime had arrived.

Grabbing my tray, I scanned the cafeteria and spotted Callie sitting with Arizona. A small smile tugged at my lips—my ship was real. They were together. I joined them, setting my tray down just as Mark slid into the seat across from me.

"So, what have you all been up to?" I asked, picking at my food.

"Just the usual," Mark replied nonchalantly.

"And you?" Callie asked, glancing at me.

"Paperwork," I said with a sigh.

"Oh, that sucks," Callie sympathized, and I nodded in agreement.

My attention shifted when Owen walked toward us with a blonde woman at his side.

"Mind if we join you?" Owen asked.

"Of course not. Have a seat," I said, motioning to the empty chairs. Owen sat next to Arizona while the blonde woman took the seat beside me.

I turned to her with a polite smile. "We haven't met yet. I'm Mia Grey."

"Teddy Altman," she introduced herself, shaking my hand.

Her eyes were stunning, and I caught myself staring for a second too long.

"How's your first day going? You ready to go back to Baghdad yet?" Mark asked, amusement lacing his voice.

Teddy chuckled. "Actually, I'm really impressed. The facility, the equipment, and the caliber of the residents are all outstanding."

"Have you met Cristina Yang yet?" I asked curiously.

"Mhm. Cristina Yang might be the best resident I've ever seen," Teddy admitted.

Owen raised an eyebrow. "You think?"

"Yeah, I do."

"I don't think she likes me, though," Teddy added with a small shrug.

"Oh, she doesn't like you?" Mark asked, his usual smugness showing.

"Mark," I warned, already seeing where this was going.

"No, you're probably right," Mark continued. "Just because Yang drove off the last three cardio attendings doesn't mean—"

"She did not," Owen cut in.

"Burke," Mark pointed out.

"That wasn't her fault," I said firmly.

"Hahn," Mark countered.

Teddy shifted uncomfortably.

"She had nothing to do with Hahn leaving," I insisted.

"Yeah, that was me," Callie admitted.

"Dixon," Mark pressed on.

I groaned. "Mark, can you just shut up?"

Annoyed, I pushed back from the table. "I'm gonna go see what my sister and Cristina are up to. It was nice meeting you, Teddy."

"Talk later, Mia," Callie called after me.

"Of course," I said before heading to where Meredith, Cristina, and Alex were sitting. I dropped into the seat next to Cristina.

"So, what are they talking about over there?" Alex asked.

"Cristina," I answered, smirking.

"Wait, really?" Cristina perked up.
