Most of 1-A was admiring the new facility that Stark had made for the Avengers. Almost a week had passed since Ultron's plot to destroy the world was thwarted. In that time, the 1-A heroes were told about this new facility and that there'd be a special surprise for them after everyone had moved over there. Clint decided to retire from hero work, and Banner was missing, meaning they'd be stuck on this world for some more time. Ojiro and Hagakure did indeed have their date, and just like that, most of the 1-A females were with someone. Ashido had arranged a few quintuple dates to the half annoyance, half pleasure of the couples. Right now, eighteen of the students were in a hangar with Wanda, Rhodes, Vision, and Sam Wilson. The two that weren't there were Bakugo and Midoriya. They were walking with Thor, Tony, and Steve, discussing stuff.
"We're dealing with something different," Midoriya said.
"It's something new," Bakugo said.
"The Vision is artificial intelligence," Steve said.
"A machine," Tony said, "it's not like a person lifting the hammer."
"Right different rules for us," Steve said.
"He can wield the hammer," Thor said, "he can keep Mind Stone. It's safe with the Vision. And these days safe is in short supply."
After a second's pause, Midoriya spoke up.
"If the hammer was in an elevator--" he said.
"It'd go up." Bakugo said.
"Are elevators worthy in that case?"
"I'm going to miss these little talks of ours," Thor said.
"Not if you stay." Tony said.
They all exited the facility.
"I have no choice," Thor said, "the Mind Stone us the fourth Infinity Stone to show up in recent years, it's not a coincidence."
"The fourth?" Midoriya asked, "How many are there, again?"
"Six. The space stone is in the Tesseract. That's what Loki used to bring the Chitauri to earth. The reality stone is the Aether, which was used by the Dark Elves in an attempt to plunge everything into darkness. The power stone was in play recently, and the time and soul stones are somewhere else. Someone is playing an intricate game and made pawns of us. And once all of his pieces are in place..."
"Triple yahtzee?" Tony asked.
"Checkmate," Bakugo whispered.
After asking if he'd be okay and reassuring them he would be, he lifted his hammer, a beam of rainbow light came down, and he was gone. Tony decided to go as well. Bakugo and Midoriya decided to head back to their friends. They were understandably uneasy about the fact that the Infinity Stones were in play from so long ago.
"What do you think this puppet master wants with the stones?" Midoriya asked.
"I don't know, Deku," Bakugo replied, "the fact that these stones are in play and that Loki was in possession of two when we got here means that this unknown has been in control for at least that long."
"If one stone can control an aspect of existence, then what if all six were brought together?"
"That would mean complete control over everything. And somebody who wants all six for some purpose can't want them for a good reason."
They got to the hangar and saw everyone talking happily amongst themselves and the other four. Bakugo and Midoriya knew they'd have to at least tell their classmates their suspicions, but doing it now was probably not a good idea.
