Chapter 18

I'm sorry

Next morning in Seattle

"Meredith, I need you to wake up." Jackson whispered as he tried to wake up Meredith but Meredith didn't stir a bit. Jackson got worried and put his hand on her shoulder, he immediately pulled away as he felt the heat of her body. "April, call an ambulance." Jackson yelled as he noticed that Meredith's pulse was very weak. April ran into the room and saw that Jackson stood over Meredith with tears in his eyes. "Call now. " he snapped. April grabbed her phone and called 911, she also called Bailey to let her know that Meredith was on her way. After a few minutes the ambulance arrived at the house. They checked on Meredith and pulled her onto the stretcher. Jackson stepped into the ambulance and drove away. April grabbed Zola and drove with her to the hospital.

At the hospital

"Meredith Grey, probably pneumonia also suffers from Alzheimer's." The paramedic yelled as he stepped out of the ambulance with Meredith on the gurney and Jackson behind him. Bailey was quickly beside Meredith and they wheeled her into the trauma room. "What the hell happened?" Richard asked as he stormed into the room. "She has pneumonia and a fever over 104.2, we need to call Derek, he has to be here." Bailey yelled. "On it." Jackson replied as he dialed Derek's number quickly. It went straight to voicemail. Jackson frowned because the plane should've landed two hours ago. "Dr.Hunt, was the flight from Shepherd delayed or something?" Jackson asks as he sees Owen Hunt running into the ER. "No, the plane should've landed two hours ago, why?" "Well Meredith is in the ER. It looks bad, so Derek should be here for her but I can't reach him and normally the surgery is in 5 hours. So that makes no sense." Jackson said in a scared voice. "Wait Meredith is here?" Owen asked. "Dr. Hunt, please just find out where Derek is. Meredith needs him and we need him if it comes to the point..." Jackson trailed off and looked on the ground. Owen understood him right away and began to walk to his office. "I'll find out where Derek is, I promise." With that he left for his office. "Derek?" Meredith whispered. "We will call Derek okay." Bailey tried to calm Meredith down. "Der-Derek." Meredith whispered once again before her eyes were starting to drop. "Grey, stay awake." Bailey said in a loud voice to her. Then just as Bailey wanted to say more Meredith's stats began to drop. "Grey, stay here." Bailey yelled.

In the woods

Derek woke up and groaned in pain. "Shep, you awake." Alex said quietly, Derek looked around. "Where are we?" Derek asked. "We are in the woods, our plane crashed." Mark replied while rubbing Lexie's back who was sitting in his lab. "Meredith, where's Mer." Derek asked in concern. Mark frowned. "Derek she's at home, with Jackson and April." "Oh good." Derek whispered as he felt his eyes close again. "How is your arm Derek?" Lexie asked. Derek looked to his right arm which was crushed. "Hurt, but it's okay." He replied, he did his best by trying to stay awake but his body didn't have the strength. "He's out again, isn't he?" Alex asked Cristina who nodded in response. "What's the deal with the scrub cap?" Cristina asked, Lexie looked up. "He buyed it for Meredith. It was a present for after her boards. It's the same Derek has." Lexie replied while a tear was running down her cheek, which Mark wiped away quickly. "Do you think he's going to be okay?" Lexie asked, Mark just shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know Leixe. I hope so."

Back in Seattle

"Meredith Grey, don't give up here. I know you hate your disease but you have to fight for Derek, Zola and all of your friends. Fight Meredith." Bailey said to Meredith as she performed CPR. "How long?" Richard asked. "5 Minutes." Bailey replied. "If she goes over 9 minutes you have to let her go. It's in her file and we can't reach Derek so we have to go after her file." Richard whispered with tears in his eyes. Bailey looked at him in disbelief. "What, I can't let her go after 9 minutes. I refuse to do that." Bailey cried. "You have to. I don't want that either." "Where's Amelia. Maybe she can reach Derek." Bailey yells, Webber nodded and paged Amelia. After a few minutes Amelia entered the room. "What do we-" She cut herself off when she saw Meredith flatlining. "What happened?" "She has pneumonia and a fever over 104.8. We treated her but her stats dropped, we can't reach Derek and we need him." Richard said, Amelia nodded slowly. "I'll call him." She whispered before she stepped out off the room and grabbed her phone.
