Mystic Falls High School
Bonnie sits at her desk in math class, trying to stay awake during a really boring lesson.
Teacher:"Today we're going to talk about shadow reckoning. This is a method of measuring heights by the sun's shadow. Let's say, for example, that we're going to measure the distance of a shadow. We're gonna take this measure here, measure the length, and we're going to multiply that by the height of the source. Building height can also be measured, using a clinometer, which we're going to make in class tomorrow."
Bonnie was so bored, she glances around and noticed something in the hallway.
She gets up and follows a woman who turns out to be her ancestor, Emily Bennett.
Bonnie:"Hello?" She called out.
She follows Emily out of the double doors.

Bonnie shakes her head in disbelief,"No. This isn't real."

Outside, Elena and I are walking towards the school.
Nevaeh:"Have you even talked to Bonnie?"
Elena:"No, I'm mad at her. She needs to make the first move."
Nevaeh:"Be the bigger person."
Elena:"Impossible in her presence."
Nevaeh:"Why are you so pissed at her anyway?"
Elena:"She's a thief, that's why. I gave her my necklace, and she refused to give it back. It's a matter of principle."
I sighed,"And we tried. I'm officially out of it. You two are going to apologize, and go back to being friends."
Elena:"I hope so. Your turn. Where is Stefan? Have you talked to him?"
Nevaeh:"He's avoiding me."
Elena:"Why?"
Nevaeh:"...it's complicated." The bell rings, giving me an excuse to leave. "I'll see you later."
I went to walk to class. Jace and Elena pass each other.
Jace:"Hey."
Elena:"Hey."
Jace just walks away. Elena is disappointed, and stared at him before walking away.

In history class, I sit down at my desk, and Bonnie sat next to me. Then the new teacher walked through the door as he prepares for class.
?:"Good morning everyone. Alrighty."
He writes his name on the board "Alaric Saltzman. I mouthed to Bonnie,"Are you okay?" Bonnie shrugs.
Alaric:"Alaric Saltzman. It's a mouthful, I know. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Saltzman is of German origins. My family emigrated here in 1755 to Texas. I, however, was born and raised in Boston. Now the name Alaric belongs to a very dead great grandfather I will never be able to thank enough. You'll probably want to pronounce "Alaric" but it's "Alaric", okay? So, you can call me Rick. I'm your new history teacher." He smiles.
I smiled at the new teacher, I'm going to like this guy.

Salvatore Boarding House
Damon enters Stefan's bedroom and wakes him up with some coffee.
Damon:"Rise and shine!" He hands him some coffee. "You'll be late for school."
Stefan:"What? What are you doing?"
Damon:"Peace offering. Come on, you need it for blood circulation. Does dead flesh good!" Stefan makes a face, and Damon sighs. "All right. I'm sorry."
Stefan get out of bed and starts to get ready,"Step aside, please."
Damon:"I got the town off our back. It was for the greater good, but I'm sorry. And, to prove it, I'm not gonna feed on a human." He pauses. "For at least a week. I'll even adopt a Stefan diet! Only nothing with feathers."
Stefan starts to mock Damon,"Cause I realize that trying to kill your closest and oldest friend is beyond evil, and yet somehow, it's worthy of honor."
Damon:"Are you mocking me?"
Stefan continues to mock him,"Yes, Stefan. Now that the secret society of vampire haters is off our backs, I can go back to my routine of "How can I destroy Stefan's life this week?"
Damon starts mocking Stefan,"And I can go back to sulking and Nevaeh—longing and forehead brooding." He laughs. "This is fun. I like this."
Stefan still mocks Damon,"And I will finally reveal the ulterior motive behind my evil and diabolical return to Mystic Falls."
Damon:"Yeah. I'm done. "That's just like you, Damon. Always have to have the last word." He left the room.

Mystic Falls High School
Bonnie was explaining to me about her dreams that she was having.
Bonnie:"And then, I ended up at the remains of the old Fell's church before I woke up back in the woods."
Nevaeh:"And you always saw your ancestor Emily?"
Bonnie:"Mhm. Do you two believe in ghost?"
Nevaeh:"Two weeks ago I'd say no, but now..."
Bonnie:"Because I think that I'm being haunted."
Nevaeh:"I don't get it. Why Emily?"
Bonnie:"Grams said she was a powerful witch back in the Civil War days, and that this medallion was hers. A witch's talisman."
Nevaeh:"And it all started when you got the necklace?"
Bonnie:"I think that she is using it to communicate with me."
Nevaeh:"Okay, what does your Grams say about all of this?"
Bonnie:"I can't call her. She's gonna tell me to embrace it. I don't want to embrace it, I want it to stop."

In history class, Jeremy walks into Alaric's classroom and greets Alaric, who is eating lunch at his desk.
Alaric finished his chewing and sets down his sandwich,"You know that old teacher had a jackass file? No joke." He holds up a file. "It's typed on a label. It has all the troublemakers in it. But really it's just opus—to you." Jeremy looks at him alarm. "Don't worry about it." He throws the file in the trash. "I'm not him. Clean slate. Now...let's talk about grades."
Jeremy:"I know that I had a rough couple of months, but I've been trying to turn them around."
Alaric:"Yeah, I saw that. But, the problem is, we're halfway through a semester and half a fail is pretty bleak." He paused. "This is the part where you say to me,"But what can I do to change that?" I'm glad you asked! How do you feel about extra credit?"
Jeremy shakes his head in agreement,"Yeah, yeah, totally! Whatever."
Alaric smiles,"Good! Write me a paper, then."
Jeremy:"Okay. What about?"
Alaric:"History. Pick a topic, keep it local, and no Wikipedia-regurgita. These old towns have a rich history, so just get your hands dirty, make it sing and your back on track. Deal?"
Jeremy was grateful,"Yeah. Deal." He notices Alaric's ring. "That's a cool ring."
Alaric was awkward,"Oh, thanks. It was my father's. A little garnish, but family, you know?" He returns to the topic at hand. "You've got a week."

Jace passes Elena again outside.
Jace:"Hey."
Elena stops him,"Hey, what is that?"
Jace:"What is what?"
Elena:"The "hey!" That's twice. That is two heys. That—do you have any other words in your vocabulary."
Jace was confused,"What's wrong with "hey"?"
Elena:"It reeks of awkward subtext. You spent the night in my bed! There was cuddling. And then, you snuck out before dawn so you wouldn't have to face me, which I must say is a total Lame-Guy move that I did not appreciate. And now with the "hey's"? Seriously? I mean, I may have been some pathetic, insecure mess after the party, but do not mistake that for me being a pushover, because I do not let guys mess with my head anymore."
Jace:"I heard your aunt in the morning, and I didn't want to get you in trouble. So, I went out of the window."
Caroline:"You went out the window? Another Lame-Guy move."
Jace:"Your godmother's the Sheriff! And your aunt could call her in a second. And as for the "hey's", I'm pretty sure it what I've said to you every day since the first grade. Trying to read something into it? Lame-Girl move." He walks away from her.

Elsewhere on the school campus, I saw Stefan sitting on a picnic table and I walked o we to him to join him.
Stefan:"Hi."
Nevaeh:"You weren't in class. I was worried."
Stefan:"Yeah, I got your message, and I'm sorry I don't get back to you, I wanted to see with Lexi was okay, she left last night. But what I wanted to say shouldn't be said over the phone."
Nevaeh:"A simple "I didn't kill my brother" text would be sufficed."
Stefan:"I didn't kill my brother, as much as he deserved it. He has you to thank for that."
Nevaeh:"So, what do you want to tell me?"
Stefan:"I won't be coming to school anymore. I'm gonna back off and keep my distance. It's the right thing to do."
Nevaeh:"Back off of school, or from me." There was an awkward silence. "Thank you for telling me."
Stefan:"It's better this way."
I was upset,"Yep. I got it."
Stefan:"You're angry. That's good. It'll be easier if you hate me."

In the parking lot, Bonnie is walking to her car. Once she reaches it, she runs into Damon.
Damon:"Okay, it's your last chance."
Bonnie scared,"I'm gonna scream."
Damon:"Oh no, don't do that. Let's stay on point. I want my necklace."
Bonnie:"You can't have it."
Damon:"I can't have it, but you can give it to me. I'm trying to help you, here."
Bonnie:"I don't want your help."
Damon:"You do need my help, and you don't even know it. You know why, you little witch? 'Cause you've stumbled into something you need to stumble out of."
Bonnie:"Just leave me alone or I swear—"
Damon:"Don't! No threats. Look, A, you hurt me last time. B, I wish you no harm. Believe it or not Bonnie, I wanna protect you. Let me help you get Emily off your back."
Bonnie was confused,"How do you know about her?"
Damon:" I know a lot of things, and I know more about that crystal than you do, and I know that she's using it to creep inside of you. See how scared you are? And, you should be, because I will get that crystal, even if I have to wait for Emily to give it to me herself. So, next time she comes out to play, you tell her that a deal's a deal."
Damon opens Bonnie's car door for her, and once she's inside, he closes it for her.
