(7 DAYS TILL PROM)It was around 4:00 in the morning. You hadn't gotten any sleep. You knew school next day was gonna be a bitch. You couldn't sleep, though. No matter what you did.
You couldn't stop thinking about what had happened the day before. Jacob had kissed you. You hadn't kissed back.
"Are you okay..?"
"Can...Can you take me back to school?"
"Did I do something wrong?"
"Just please take me back to school..."
"Hey, I'm sorry. I thought that you—"
"Jacob!"
"Okay okay!"
You tossed and turned in bed, shoving your face into your pillow. You groaned in frustration.
Why did I do that!?
You basically rushed through the rest of school. You didn't talk to anyone and you practically ran from your classroom out the front doors.
One thing you remembered the most was Tommy. Why was he on your mind? You had ran right past him when heading out the door. You just wanted to go home. You ignored him calling for you, you ignored his texts. You just didn't want to talk to anyone.
You turned in bed again and stared at the ceiling. Your eyes drifted to your phone and you felt a lump rise in your throat. Your breath hitched and you looked back to the ceiling. You felt like crying. You couldn't go back to school. You didn't want to even go outside at all. You made things awkward between you and Jacob and then you had just ignored your best friend.
You then realized how much you wanted to talk to Tommy. You wanted to hear his voice so bad. You wanted him to make you laugh. Hell, you wanted a hug from him more than anything in that moment.
Making your mind up, you reached for your phone and went to call your best friend. You could care less if it was 4:00 in the morning. You wanted to talk to him.
You hit Tommy's contact and waited as the phone rang. Your eyes drifted to the contact photo. It was an old photo of you two in middle school. You two were at the town's fair on the Ferris wheel. It was back when you had braces. You hated how you looked in that photo, but it was Tommy's favorite so you put it as his contact.
You were so focused on old memories you didn't realize that he had picked up. Sounds of moving around in bed from the other end made you snap out of it and focus on the call.
"Tommy..?" You said in a small voice. You heard him groan softly from the other end and yawn.
"Yeah? Y/N?" He yawned, clearly confused and having just woken up.
"Oh thank god I thought you wouldn't answer—"
"It's like 4:00 in the morning. Why are you calling me?" He groaned. You went quiet and your heart fell slightly. At least, that's what it felt like. You ignored the feeling, though.
"Sorry...I just couldn't sleep. Never mind it's fine." You said.
"No no no no! It's fine! It's fine." He chuckled softly and you smiled a little.
"I'm surprised you even picked up."
"I'm surprised I did, too. Are you okay? You kind of left in a hurry. You didn't even respond to my texts." He said. You went quiet for a second.
"Yeah sorry...I just..." you sighed and rested your phone on the pillow beside your head.
"So...Jacob kissed me." You said. Tommy's end went quiet for a bit before he choked out a small laugh.
"Wow—I mean that's great! Wait so why were you so upset?"
"I didn't kiss him back...I told him to take me back to school and...I sort of yelled at him?"
"You..." he laughed a little, clearly trying to stay quiet while doing so, "you yelled at Jacob after he did the one thing you've been wanting him to do for so long?"
"I don't know! I just...I don't know what happened." You said, hugging your arms. Tommy sighed and you could hear him laugh again.
"You are so confusing." He chuckled. You didn't take that joke too lightly. You felt your eyes brim with tears. Tommy was right. Jacob was probably upset with your clear mixed messages that weren't even supposed to be mixed messages. A few tears fell from your eyes and you sniffled.
"I know..." you mumbled.
"Are you crying?" Tommy asked instantly. You wiped your eyes and let out a shaky sigh.
"No, I'm just tired." You said.
"You're not just tired. Y/N, you're crying. What's wrong?" He asked. You could barely see, tears blurring your eyes. You broke into sobs and hide your face in your shirt.
"I-I'm sorry I just...I ruined it! I ruined everything. I don't know what happened! Jacob hates me now!" You cried.
"Y/N...no he doesn't hate you." He said, his voice breaking a little. You sniffled again, your nose clogged and running.
"What am I supposed to tell him!? That I like him, but I just didn't feel like kissing in that moment!?"
"Yes! Exactly. Just tell him you weren't ready for that sort of stuff. He'll understand." He said softly. You tried to calm your tears and you nodded.
"Okay..." you took a few deep breaths and calmed your shaking a little, "okay okay...you're right."
You could basically hear Tommy smiling on the other line.
"Hey...you wanna take a mental health day tomorrow? You can come over. My mom and dad won't mind." He said. You smiled a little yourself at the thought.
"Yeah...I'd really like that."
The thought of you and Tommy just spending the day together made you really happy. Just playing games, watching shows, and filming stupid little videos. I mean, he was your best friend. Why wouldn't you feel like that?
"I'll talk to my mom in the morning. You get sleep, okay? If you don't you'll look like a trash panda in the morning." He said. You giggled and picked up the phone.
"Okay...bye, Tommy."
"Bye!"
You hung up, already feeling ten times better. You set your phone down and turned in bed, yawning a little. You finally were able to fall asleep.
