(0 DAYS TIL PROM)

People were already glued to each other. Best friends vowing to staying single for life and going with each other. Like come on, you know it's to hide how upset you are about not getting asked. Couples basically sticking together as they cooed to each other about all they'll do during the big night. You knew how it would go. Lovey dovey and marriage shit during prom and then screwing each other's brains out at home or in the car.

You stuck your tongue out a fake gagged. You trudged through the halls. You just wanted to get home. The day had felt so damn long. You kept passing Jacob and Reya. She was of course clinging to him, smirking as she glared at you whenever passing. It was like she made sure to run into you as much as possible to make you feel worse.

You walked towards the school doors, pushing your way outside. You flinched as someone behind you called your name over the many kids giggling and talking. You recognized the yelling and sighed. Turning, Tommy ran up to you. He was panting as he caught his breath.

"Jesus...why didn't you wait for me?" He breathed out, following you quickly as you continued walking home.

"Sorry I forgot..." you said. He frowned and walked beside you.

"What's wrong?" He asked. You shrugged.

"It's just...I..." you tried to find the words as they left your mouth, "I'm not gonna go to prom tonight."

He blinked and furrowed his eyebrows.

"What do you mean?"

"What do you mean what do I mean? I'm not going. There's no point." You scoffed. He tensed and cringed a bit.

"Well don't get mad at me. I just...I really thought you wanted to go."

"I don't anymore. I have no reason to."

"You do! You can come and...hangout with me!"

"Won't you have a date?" You shot back. He paused and fell quiet for a second.

"What if she says no?"

"Then you stay home, too."

"Why don't we go together if that happens?"

"Because I don't want to go."

"Then I can come to your house and—"

"Tommy! Are you not listening to me!? I just want to be alone tonight! Just fucking leave me alone!" You shouted at him, turning and storming off. He stood there, watching you leave.

As you rushed home, you felt your anger slowly die down. You ran through the front door of your house and slammed it behind you. Your parents were at work. You didn't care. You ran to your room and slammed the door behind you. You collapsed to the floor and cried. You hiccuped, choking on tears and mucus running down your throat.

Could this year get any worse? Now Tommy hated you. You would never be on his mind again. He'll just fall in love and leave you behind. Look what you did. You tossed away your best friend over being upset about prom. What a great friend you are...

You stayed like that for hours, just crying and holding yourself. You had lost track of time. Prom was probably happening at that moment. Then, your phone went off. You forced yourself to sit up and wipe your tears. You answered it without even checking the contact.

"Hello?" You sighed.

"Hey, Y/N. I just—"

"Tommy I'm sorry..."

The line fell silent. You had said that out of instinct of hearing his voice. He chuckled softly.

"W-Wha—for what?"
