(8 DAYS TILL PROM)

You walked to the lunchroom. Having left your lunch at home, you had to get hot lunch. You stood in the long line, pulling out your phone. Your thumb hovered over Tommy's contact. You shook your head and scrolled away. You chose Jacob's contact instead.

Your phone rang a bit. You stood there, thinking over calling him. Before you could choose to hang up, Jacob picked up his phone.

"Hello? Y/N?" His voice came from the other end. You smiled hearing his voice and your face heated up a bit. That's what you were supposed to feel. You had a crush on Jacob. Only Jacob.

"Hey...uh you...drive right?" You asked. You heard a soft chuckle on his end.

"I do. What about it?"

"Oh Uhm...well...I really don't want to have to wait in this lunch line and...I have a bit of cash on me and..."

"Are you asking me to take you to lunch?" He asked. Your face turned bright red and you giggled awkwardly.

"If that's okay..." he chuckled.

"Yeah! I'm out in the parking lot right now. I usually eat in my car, anyway." He said. You walked out of the line and out of the lunch room.

"Okay! I'll meet you out there." You said. You hung up and shoved your phone into your pocket. You stopped at your locker to grab your purse.

Stepping out of the school, you looked around the parking lot. You've only seen Jacob's car once. You couldn't quite remember what it looked like. There were too many cars in the parking lot, too.

Then, a car pulled up on the street in front of you. The window rolled down. Jacob sat in the driver's seat, smiling at you with the warm smile that made your heart melt.

"You gonna get it or what?" He asked. You snickered and opened the door, slipping into the seat beside his. Once you closed the door, Jacob began driving. The radio was playing softly in the background as he drove off campus.

"Where do you wanna grab food?" He asked. You leaned back into his car seat and shrugged, trying to seem less tense. He looked to you and raised his eyebrow.

"You look terrified." he chuckled. You sat up a little and looked away, embarrassed. That clearly didn't work.

"I-I'm fine. Just...anywhere close is fine. Not like lunch is that long." you said. He chuckled and nodded.

"Yeah. It kinda sucks. Lunch should be longer." he said. You nodded back to him and silence fell over the car. You hugged your arms and looked out the window. Watching other cars pass you as you drove was pretty distracting.

"Is this place good?" Jacob said as the car slowed down. You looked over to his side of the window and nodded. The place he was referring to was just a small fast food place that was pretty close to the school.

"Yeah that looks good." you said. He turned and pulled into the drive-thru.

"I was thinking we can just get food and then eat in the parking lot." he said. You nodded again. He looked to you and grinned.

"I see your a person of many words." he said. You blushed and smiled sheepishly.

"S-Sorry! I just...what else am I gonna say?" you asked. He looked back in front of him and he shook his head, chuckling.

"Nothing. It's fine. I'm just messing with you." he said, shoving your shoulder a little. You giggled and brought your knees to your chest.

"Leave me alone." you mumbled. He laughed.

You two ended up finally picking up a conversation as you drove through the drive-thru, ordering your food and pulling into a parking spot. You wheezing hard enough to sound like a tea kettle, which Jacob pointed out.

After a while, you two lost track of time. His car was pretty messy from you two having a mini food fight and your pants were soaked from spitting out your drinks and laughing. You hadn't realized your classes had started 30 minutes ago.

"Shit Jacob!" you pointed to the clock on his car's radio screen and you two looked to each other with wide eyes. He paused before bursting into laughter and shaking his head.

"Ah who cares? I've skipped class before. My teachers don't care." he said. You smiled and looked away.

"Yeah...I'm sure my mom and dad won't mind." you said, playing with the straw of your now empty soda cup. You looked out the window, silence falling over the car again. Jacob looked to your, his curly dark hair falling over his eyes a little. He grinned and placed his hand on your knee. You looked over to him and you gave a shy smile. You could feel your face heat up a little.

"Hi..."

"Hi." he chuckled. You looked to his hand and then back out the window.

"What out the window is so interesting to you?" he asked. You shrugged and giggled awkwardly.

"I don't know...I just--" when you turned to look at him, he leaned in and cupped the side of your face. He pressed his lips to yours, closing his eyes. You tensed and your eyes widened. He was kissing you. Your biggest crush was kissing you!

After all this time you had been dreaming of this. Your first kiss with the boy you loved the most. The same boy you had been crushing on. That boy finally liked you back. He liked you, too. So, after all this time...

Why weren't you kissing back?
