You weaved through the crowd at the town market. It was pretty packed there. Then again, it was always packed at the market. You stopped at a mini donut stand. Waiting in line, the smell of donuts floated by you. You sniffed the air and sighed. The town's mini donut company was always the best. You lived too far from the actual place they were sold. You only got to have them the few times you went to the market. They were a little expensive for donuts, but it's always worth the pay.
Standing in line, someone jumped on your back. You stumbled forward with a small yelp. You were pulled back and someone wrapped their arms around you from behind, laughing. You recognized the laugh.
"Tommy! You scared me!" You turned and smacked Tommy's shoulder. He giggled, crossing his arms.
"That was the point." He said. Tommy was wearing his favorite blue 'club Sunday' sweatshirt. His golden hair was as fluffed up as always. You absentmindedly reached up and ran your hand through his hair. He blinked and blushed.
"Wha—"
"Your hair is soft."
Tommy snorted in laughter and he swatted your hand away.
"What the fuck? Why'd you brush my hair?" He laughed. You blushed and shrugged.
"I don't know...your hair just looked really soft." Tommy pushed you back a little, signaling you to move forward in the line.
You waited in line with Tommy for donuts. Of course, he insisted that he didn't want any when you ordered. Once you got the donuts, though, he began eating yours.
"Tommy! Stop it! you said you didn't want any!" You whined, trying to get him away.
"Don't be selfish!" He said, trying to grab them from you. You giggled and ran off, stuffing more donuts in your mouth. Tommy chased you down. He tried to grab them from you. You ran out into the park's field where there were less people.
Tommy grabbed you and pulled your back to his chest. He tried to grab them from you. You stretched your arms out, the donut box barely out of reach.
"Tommy there's only one left! I want it!"
"Sharing is caring!"
Tommy was able to grab your wrist and spin you to face him. He grabbed the donut from the box and held it away from you. You tried to grab it back.
"Tommy!" You whined. He laughed.
"We can share! Stop being dramatic." He said, shoving you away. You crossed your arms and pouted.
"Split it in half." You said. He bit into the donut, half of it sticking out. He leaned down a little and raised his eyebrow. Your eyes widened a bit and you leaned away.
"You want me to...bite it off..?" You asked. He nodded, unable to speak because of the donut in his mouth.
Your eyes flicked down to the donut, then to his lips, then to his eyes. Your face turned bright red and you slowly leaned in. You bit into the donut. Your nose pressed against his, your lips barely grazing his.
The donut broke and you quickly pulled away. You covered your mouth as you chewed, looking away. Tommy's cheeks were a slight tint of pink and he ate his half of the donut, chuckling. He wrapped his arm around your shoulders and pulled you close, walking with you to the other stands.
"Come on! They have an Italian Soda stand. I passed it on my way to find you." He said, pulling you along. You stumbled as you followed. You were dazed by what just happened. Your heart fluttered as you leaned into his touch.
The familiar feeling filled your body. The feeling that something still wasn't right. The feeling that what you were doing was wrong. More...the feeling that you could've made a better choice in that moment.
A small squeeze on your arm made you look up to Tommy. He smiled crookedly down to you, tilting his head to the side.
"You good?"
"Y-Yeah! I'm fine. It's...It's nothing I just spaced out..." you said slowly. He frowned a little, but looked back forward. He pulled his arm away from you. You felt the warmth around your shoulders disappear and your shoulders slumped a bit. You sort of missed his touch.
You shook your head, pushing the thought away. You reminded yourself of Jacob. That's who you had a crush on. Jacob.
'Mom's getting to my head...'
You thought. You turned and looked up to Tommy as you two walked.
"Hey TomTom." You said. He looked down to you, a small smile playing at his lips.
"Yeah?"
"Guess who I stayed up all night texting?" You said in a sly voice. Tommy's eyebrows furrowed a little, but he didn't say anything against what you said.
"I don't remember texting you." He said. You punched his shoulder.
"No! Jacob. I got his number and we've been texting a lot. I think I'm actually going to win the bet." You said, nudging his shoulder. He rolled his eyes.
"Oh yeah? Well, I've already gotten...t-ten girls' numbers. So, I'll be getting a girlfriend by like...tomorrow." He said. You snickered and shook your head.
"Okay, Tommy." You sighed. He laughed and patted your shoulder.
"Hey..."
You looked up to him and smiled softly.
"Yeah?" He paused, trying to find the right words. His eyes flicked to your mouth and then back to your eyes.
"I...I'm really proud of you for being able to get his number." He said. You blushed a little and forced an awkward smile.
"Thanks..."
