"I never said I was here to take you back to the mansion. I'm here so that we can live together in this house from now on."
"I can't let my beautiful wife live here alone," Adrian said, his voice laced with a mixture of arrogance and something almost resembling care.
At that moment, I felt a wave of exhaustion wash over me. It seemed that whenever I tried to lead a normal life and forget everything that had happened, Adrian appeared to destroy it. I couldn't understand what I had done to deserve such a terrible existence. All I wanted was a simple life, free from the chaos he brought into it. Why couldn't he understand that I no longer wanted to be with him? Why couldn't he just let me live peacefully?
I took a deep breath and pushed his hands away from my waist, stepping back from him. He remained there, his mocking smile unchanged as he observed me.
"Mr. Parker, let me remind you that you signed those divorce papers. So you have no rights over me anymore."
"I know that I signed the papers, but let me remind you that we need to be together until the resort is completed," he retorted, his voice carrying a note of finality.
"That doesn't change the fact that we both signed the divorce papers. I'm only keeping our divorce a secret for the sake of our companies. But that doesn't mean we need to live together. We don't have to be in each other's lives," I responded firmly.
"We need to stay under one roof, Sarah. If we live separately, people will eventually find out, and it will create more issues. Living together for a few months won't harm us," he countered.
He had a point, but trusting Adrian again was a significant risk. After all he had done, how could I trust that he wasn't just putting on a facade to hurt me once more? His apology for his past behaviour hadn't erased the trauma. His presence alone was a painful reminder of those dark nights.
Yet, with no other option, I had to tolerate his presence for a few more months. F*ck my life!
"Alright, Adrian. You can stay here, but remember to stay away from me. I've had enough of your tantrums. You stay out of my life, and I'll stay out of yours."
"Also, I don't want Jessica in my house. If you want to meet her, do it outside," I added, my voice leaving no room for negotiation.
"That won't be a problem, as I've already broken up with Jessica," he replied, folding his arms.
This revelation surprised me. Just yesterday, they seemed to be planning a future together, and now, suddenly, they had broken up. But frankly, his personal life was no longer my concern.
"You can use the guest room next to my bedroom," I said and turned to walk towards my room.
As I passed him, he suddenly grabbed my arm. I turned back, giving him a furious glare.
"Don't you want to know why we broke up?" he asked, pulling me slightly closer.
"Why would I be interested in your personal affairs, Parker? I don't know what games you and Jessica are playing, but you can't hurt me again," I retorted, trying to pull away.
"This isn't a game, Sarah. All I want is a second chance to prove myself. Honestly, I just want to spend these three months with you because once they're over, I won't have this chance again."
"I know you hate me, but believe me, I'm not here to hurt you again. I just want you back in my life, but I respect your decision. I'm not forcing you to do anything," he whispered, his voice heavy with emotion as he placed a hand on my cheek, his eyes searching mine.
