Project Survival

Chapter 6

I had no idea where we were going as I drove down the long deserted road. The only thing that I did know was that I had to find somewhere safe to hide Sidney. As I drove I wondered where I was going to find the Sliver potion drug. I had no idea where to find a drug dealer or how to deal with them. I had driven for about five hours before I got to the next town. I was really hungry and tired but I didn’t dare stop to eat or rest. I needed to make sure that Sidney was ok before I could do that.

It was a rather big town and I was hoping that I would be able to find both drugs here. The streets were mostly empty since it was after two in the morning and I was grateful for this. The less people saw us the better. I wasn’t sure where I was going but as I drove I could see that I was heading into the bad part of town. There were graffiti on the walls and there were a lot of buildings with loud music and bright flashing lights. If I was going to find any drugs in this town it would be here.

The streets running in front of the buildings which I assumed to be clubs were full of parked cars. I didn’t want to leave the car out in the open where anybody that walked by could see Sidney so I kept on driving until I found a dark quiet street. It wasn’t the ideal place but it’s not like I had a lot of options.

I grabbed some of the cash I had stolen and pushed it into my jeans pocket before taking a deep breath and getting out of the car. I made sure all the doors were locked and then made my way back to the busy street. There were a few people standing around but they didn’t pay much attention to me as I passed them. Most of them looked completely wasted.

I was considering going into one of the clubs to try and find out where I could buy drugs when something caught my eye. There was guy and a girl standing on one of the corners. They were keeping to the shadows but I could see them making an exchange. She handed him something that looked like money and then he placed something very small in her hand.

I knew it wasn’t clever to just walk up to them but I did it anyway.  As I approached them the girl said something to him and then headed in the other direction. The man just stood there watching me as I got closer. He looked awful and under normal circumstances I wouldn’t have gone anywhere near him but my life hasn’t been normal for quite a while now. He was scrawny, with a long beard and hollow looking eyes.

“Hi,” I said as I came to a stop in front of him. He didn’t say anything so I continued talking, wanting to get it over with. I was kind of freaking out at the moment. The shock of what I had done earlier at the farm house was sinking in and I was terrified of what might happen next.

“I’m looking for Sliver potion,” I stated and watched as a curious look entered his eyes.

“Sliver potion?” he questioned, it almost sounded like he didn’t believe me.

“Yes,” I answered, trying to act normal.

“I don’t sell that,” he said as he turned his back on me and started to walk away. I could feel my heart sink in my chest with disappointment. Every second that passed was a matter of life and death for Sidney.

“Wait, please!” I half shouted, half begged. It almost looked like he was just going to ignore me but then he stopped and turned around to face me.

“What?” he asked.

“Where can I get it?” I questioned, praying that he knew somebody who sold the stuff. He looked hesitant for a second but then waved his hand in a gesture for me to follow him.

I did as he instructed but kept a good distance between us, just in case he turned out to be some murdering psychopath and I had to escape. We walked down a few blocks and entered what looked like the industrial part of the town. There were no street lights on here making it hard for me to see where we were going.

The man came to a sudden stop and I almost walked right into him.

“You see that building in the distance,” he stated but it sounded more like a question.

“Yes,” I replied. It was the only building that had lights on so I couldn’t miss it.

“Go there and ask for Cramer. If they ask you who sent you, tell them it was Sully,” he said before walking off in the direction we came.

My heart was racing in my chest and my palms were sweating but I couldn’t turn back now. I had to do this no matter how scared I was.
