AN: Cheesy as hell

Loneliness is an odd concept.

When one isn't alone, they feel the need to be alone. When one is alone, the opposite is true. One can truly never be content.

Nini felt as though she was some sort of weird in between. It's like she was stuck in pudding, and she can't move an inch.

On the one hand, she wants to run back to Ricky, her ex. Try and make him forgive her for what she'd done. But on the other hand, she wanted to run so far away from here. He deserved better. He deserves someone who would love him like he loved her.

Nini loved him, she did. And she reminded him of that everyday. He believed her. But she felt like it wasn't enough. She wanted to give him so much more, but she couldn't. She wasn't sure why. There was a part of herself that she left with him. He'll always have a piece of her heart.

Maybe in time she could learn to love another, but she was sure that wasn't the case. She hoped that maybe her next partner would be just like him, but he was irreplaceable.

She let him go because he needed someone better. Their whole relationship felt off kilter. He gave so much more everyday than she gave in their whole 2 and a half years of dating. That's just the way they both were. Ricky had so much love in his heart, and Nini's heart only had a small fraction.

He told her that it was okay. He told her that he understood. He knew that she'd been hurt in previous relationships to the point where she's unsure of how to give love back. She tried to convince him that she wasn't good enough for him.

Ricky did all that he could to get her to stay. He told her that she was good enough, and that he didn't need her to be this perfect person who was able to give as much as he did. He was satisfied. All he needed was her. Nini couldn't let him carry their entire relationship on his back. She knew he needed more, and deep down she thinks he knew it too.

Nini was hurting now, but she knew that it was for the best. In time, she might grow into a person who could love like Ricky does. Ricky taught her so much, and she can only hope that she's a new person because of it.

*****

Nini hated parties.

She felt as though she was always just existing, and not taking up too much space.

The music was too loud, the atmosphere was too sticky, and there were too many people.

She only came because Ashlyn promised to bake her famous brownies. She's now realizing that the brownies weren't worth it. There had to have been at least fifty people jam packed into Ashlyn's house. Nini was feeling overwhelmed.

Nini thought he would move on, but Kourtney heard from Gina, who heard from Ashlyn, who heard from Big Red that Ricky was still recovering from their breakup.

He should move on, Nini thought. He's so much better without her, she repeated in her head. I can't go back to him, she screamed to herself when she made eye contact with him across the room.

"He deserves better" she started to whisper over and over as he approached her.

"Hey Nini..." Ricky said once he reached his place in front of her, still a good amount of distance between them.

"Hi." Nini mumbled back, looking down at her shoes, refusing to meet his eye.

"So. How've you been? I haven't seen you in a while." He continued, and Nini smiled a bit as she realized he was trying to be a little bit civil.
