All My Ghosts

AN: A happy Rini one shot for you :) This is the 3rd and final part of my Doomsday series! I recommend (re)reading both Doomsday and Erase Me before reading just to refresh your memory. Enjoy!

CW// Mentions of a past abusive relationship (moderate physical and emotional abuse)

Nini hummed softly to the music playing throughout Ricky's car, blushing every time she caught Ricky glancing at her in her peripheral vision.

"You're so smiley tonight," Ricky commented after he made her blush for the millionth time. "I'd think an eight-hour drive back to Salt Lake would drain you. I'm shocked you're able to keep your eyes open. I barely can." He joked

"Should you really be driving?" Nini asked, but both of them knew that Nini shouldn't be behind the wheel. She tended to hug the curb, leading Ricky to declare he was going to do all the driving. "I'm just happy." Nini said, grinning widely at him, "Is that such a crime?"

"You're under arrest!" Ricky cried out, reaching over to tickle Nini's torso.

"Ricky! Eyes on the road!" She laughed wildly. "I hate that you found out I was ticklish."

"You did the same to me. It's only fair." He laughed, turning his attention back to the road, but left his hand resting on her thigh, rubbing his thumb up and down soothingly. The two were driving home to Salt Lake City for the summer, and Nini couldn't wait to spend her time in the sun with Ricky. She was ready to experience her hometown with someone different by her side.

"I gotta pull over and get some gas," Ricky said, "Do you want anything from the gas station?"

"I'll come in with you. You cannot be left alone in there with money," Nini teased.

"I buy the entire stock of Snickers one time and suddenly you can't trust me!" Ricky exclaimed, pulling over into the lot of a 7-Eleven. "Should we pump gas first or get snacks first?"

"Snacks. It's always snacks." Nini told him as she got out of the car and walked into the gas station, the bell over the door jingling softly.

"Slurpees!" Ricky cheered, rushing over to the slurpee station, "Red or blue, Neens?"

"Is that even a question?" she rolled her eyes jokingly as she made a beeline for the potato chips.

She grabbed both her and Ricky's favorite flavor and watched as Ricky filled the cup with both the red and blue slurpee flavors. He must've known she was staring at him because he turned around and gave her a small wave, causing her to blush. He blushed right back and failed to notice the slurpee overflowing onto his hands.

"Ah, shit!" Ricky exclaimed through laughter, pulling his hand away from the dispenser, and flinging neon slurpee over the tile floor.

"And this is why you can't be left alone in a gas station," Nini hummed, walking over to the counter. "Just the potato chips and whatever mess my boyfriend is making at the slurpee station." She told the cashier.

The cashier began ringing her up when she felt someone brush by behind her. Someone with a short, dark haircut and red varsity jacket. Nini felt her heart stop. She'd avoided all thoughts of him for almost three years and suddenly she was taken back to her junior year at a 7-Eleven across the street from East High.

"Ooh! EJ we should get slurpees!" Nini exclaimed, making her way to the station but was halted by a firm hand on her jacket collar.

"Why don't you lay off the sugar, babe," EJ told her, thumbing through his wallet for his fake ID. "Gotta fit into your prom dress soon."
