Ocean Blue
AN: Yes, this is one of the anticipated sequels to "Oceans" which you can find in my song fics one shot book. WARNING! This story is so filler it hurts, but that's only because I have something bigger planned for this universe, and y'all will find out about that soon :) I also didn't reread this before posting. I can't be bothered to do so. I'm tired.
"You know you don't have to leave yet, right?" Nini whispered to Ricky on his last night in England. The two of them were lying together in Nini's bed, limbs intertwined. Ricky ran his left hand through Nini's hair while she played with the fingers on his right hand.
"I wish that was the truth, Neens. I promised my dad that I'd be back before school starts again."
"Just tell him that you decided to stay in England for the rest of your life."
"Believe me, I would if I could. My mom wouldn't be happy to hear that I've left my dad in America to live with some girl I met over postage."
"Who cares what your mom thinks? Fuck her."
"I, unfortunately, care." Ricky sighed.
"This rots."
"I know, baby. I know."
In the week that Ricky had gotten to know Nini, he had fallen even more in love with her. He was speechless when it came to describing her. She was an experience, and he can't believe he went this long with only knowing what she was like on paper. No words he makes could be equal to the way Nini makes him feel.
He's not sure he can go back to only communicating with her through only words. They'll be lost within him, deep within the ocean, and he won't be able to pull them to the surface. He didn't want to leave Nini now, he couldn't.
He promised his dad he'd be home the day before school starts back up from Spring Break, but he also promised Nini that he'd be back soon to be with her.
Looking back on his time spent here, he wanted to make a different promise to Nini. A promise that he wasn't going to leave her, because there's not a thing he wouldn't do for her. They had learned so much about each other, and her beauty, inside and out, enchants him to the point where it'll be incredibly painful to part from her.
Ricky didn't expect him and Nini to work so well together, but they fit like glue. He thought that their relationship would only work on paper, through poetic words and song lyrics, but he realized that it was now the last way he wanted to be with Nini.
He wanted to feel her soft attentive touches and her warm kisses. He wanted to see her and her perfect facade, with her long brown hair tumbling down her back. He wanted to hear her soothing voice, and the quiet hums she made whenever she was focused on something. He wanted all of her, not just her silly words.
It's so easy for him to lose herself in her, gazing into her eyes for as long as she lets him. He was doing fine before Ms. H had given him the pen pal assignment, but then he spent a while wrapped up in Nini's letters, and now he can't believe he was ever as independent as he was. He feels much more free with her. He feels new.
The pain of distance was going to return to him tomorrow when he gets back on a cheap flight to America, and he hops on the train to take him to Salt Lake City. Her love alone might not be enough to heal the pain he was about to feel, but it sure would help.
Ricky needs her. He finds her so interesting, so intriguing. The way her brain works in ways he's never seen before, and she's so smart. He couldn't wait to go to school alongside her when the time came.
Of course, Ricky had to keep his grades up and write some kickass applications when the time came for him to do so, but he was willing to do anything for Nini.
They might be far apart soon, but their love will still hold true.
That's what kept Ricky grounded as he traveled back across the ocean. Last minute stolen kisses and a promise of his return played over and over in his head.
He needs her, and soon he'd be with her forever.

I know this is short, and it is filler. Think of it like a bottle one shot. I just needed to get this one posted so I can start working on the next one (which will hopefully be longer than this one.)
