Pancakes For Dinner
AN: There are two Rini fics on AO3 that are also inspired by Pancakes for Dinner written by HarveyBerlin, so go check those stories out when you get a chance. Any similarities between my story and theirs are completely coincidental.
If there was anything Nini Salazar-Roberts loved about her job as a flight attendant for one of the most luxurious airlines in the world, Lufthansa, was all the traveling she got to do. It wasn't just being in new places; she loved actually going to the airport, being on the airplane, and enjoying the time she had in the sky.
She breathed in the scent of cleaning supplies, soft pretzels, and soda as she glided through the Salt Lake City airport; her roller bag trailing behind her. Her next flight was scheduled to go from the Newark International Airport, where she would switch to a plane to Madrid, and then she would go to Paris, followed by Oslo, London, and then back to Newark. It was roughly about a week's worth of traveling, and Nini was excited to set off on her next flight route. She loved going on international flights, but she hated flying through the Newark airport. Its terminals were unorganized, the lounges were crowded, and the food options were a bit less than ideal. She didn't have to spend much time at Newark, thankfully, and then she would be off overseas.
Not only was she excited about the locations and travel time, but she also was excited that a certain flight attendant was scheduled to work with her. Ricky Bowen had just started working at Lufthansa a few weeks ago, and he and Nini had only crossed paths on a few short domestic flights and at company meetings, but Nini could feel the crush forming. In the few interactions they had, he was charming and funny, and it didn't hurt that he was quite handsome. He was nothing more than a silly crush, and Nini didn't see it ever going anywhere, but that didn't mean she wouldn't look at him, or think about him.
"Ugh... not looking forward to the layover we have in Newark." She heard someone grumble behind her as she was setting up the plane for the passengers. She turned around to see Ricky going through the aisle, checking to make sure the overhead compartments were completely empty. She and Ricky were the only two flight attendants heading to Newark, as it was a small domestic flight, but once they transferred to the plane headed for Madrid, they would gain a few more attendants.
Nini giggled at his complaint, "It's not that long. I've had way worse in worse airports. It'll be fine." Ricky jokingly rolled his eyes at her reassurance.
"It just feels so dirty there. I can feel the germs on my body as soon as I walk through the gate." He explained, shivering slightly.
"I know what you mean." Nini agreed as she finished placing all the fresh drinks in the drink cart. "I was once stuck there on the day after New Years', so there were a ton of people desperate to leave the city, and caused a massive passenger overflow."
"Oh god. I could never imagine being stuck in that." Ricky laughed, "And here I am complaining about being in Newark for like 30 minutes ."
"But it's only 30 minutes in Newark and then 6 hours in the air to Madrid."
"Oh yeah, I'm looking forward to that one. It's honeymoon season, you know, so we'll be getting tons of newlywed couples ready to get drunk and spend money."
"Can't wait for that." Nini chuckled at his statement. "Plus, I heard there's a big convention going on in Oslo, so that flight should be an interesting one."
"Ugh, a bunch of French people arguing on a plane for 2 hours? Thank you, no."
"Wow, the rookie already knows that the Paris flights suck. You're catching on fast." Nini said, and Ricky just laughed.
