Reckless Driving
AN: I reread so many Rini fics on Ao3, and pulled so much inspo from there. There are a lot of references to some of my fav fics here. I challenge Bri to find them all. Also, I made everyone a high school senior to make my life easier.
ATTN: As the title suggests, reckless driving does occur in this fic. Please always be cautious when driving and do not attempt the stunts pulled in this fic. I'm serious.

Nina stood and waited on the porch of her house at the early hour of 7:30 am.
"Shit," she mumbled, checking her watch and looking up the street.
"She's been waiting for almost 15 minutes." One of her moms, Carol, said to her wife as they sat on the porch with her, enjoying their morning coffee.
"He probably overslept yet again" Nina rolled her eyes, chewing once warm Pop Tart, checking her watch again.
"I'm sure he was up late studying," Her other mom, Dana, said as she blew the steam from her cup of coffee.
"Yeah, right. Or partying and nursing a bad hangover" Nina said, tapping her finger impatiently on the porch railing.
"That doesn't sound like Ricky," Carol said.
"And what does?"
"He's a good student. That's what his dad always says."
Soon, an old station wagon pulled in front of her house and honked its horn. "Bye, moms. See you later." She waved.
She pulled her jacket on as she walked out to the street to the car in front of her house.
"Let's go, Ricky. Don't have all day." Nina snapped as she slid into the front seat.
"I should've left you," Ricky said.
"Yeah, and have my moms stop giving you gas money?"
"Whatever, Nini. I'm here now." Ricky grumbled as he put the car in drive and started towards East High.
"It's Nina and you were supposed to pick me up 20 minutes ago."
"We're still going to be on time, Nini–"
"–Nina. Doesn't matter. Now my breakfast is cold and I have 20 fewer minutes at school before class starts."
"I always thought cold Pop-Tarts were better," Ricky said, driving the familiar route to their school.
"Well, I like them hot." She huffed, folding her arms across her chest and Ricky just rolled his eyes.
Ricky had been Nina's ride to school since the start of their junior year. Nina had yet to pass her driving test, and her moms had become tired of riding in the car with her. When junior year rolled around and Nina was the only 16-year-old without a license, a new family had moved in up the street. Mike Bowen was a recent divorcé who moved to Salt Lake City to be closer to family, bringing his son with him. Nina's moms and Ricky's dad had struck up a friendship at a neighborhood potluck and arranged for Ricky to drive Nina to school every day.
"Nina, sweetie, it'll be fine. Ricky is new to town and he needs a friend," Carol had told her.
"And you need a ride to school," Dana reminded her, "so until you learn how to drive at a speed faster than 5 miles per hour, you're riding with Ricky."
Ricky had heard a similar lecture from his dad. "I told them that you needed to make new friends, and what better way to do that than with your neighbors!" Mike said.
