Shadow of the Outskirts

A/N: sorry I missed yesterday. I was hanging out with a friend and then we had family over, so I got no time to write her part.

Megan was a very fun character to write. I loved the concept of Warren having a little sister who's kind of just a mini him. I absolutely love Warren's character and the relationship I built between them, even though most of it was implied.

I am obsessed with the powers, lore, and everything of the Shadow Charmers and Fairykind. (That's one of the reasons why I loved Dragonwatch so much.) I'm also a bit obsessed with light and darkness and how they interact. So... I took advantage of that in this character and gave her both powers, with a crappy side effect. 😈

I will admit that her abilities make her a little overpowered at times, which is why they kill her if she uses them too long. 🙃

Anyway, that was such a fun concept to write about and explore and I want to do something similar in an original story, once I figure all the stuff out and actually start writing it. Until then, I had a lot of fun writing Megan and her struggle with the opposing powers.

I absolutely LOVED crossing the two series, Fablehaven and Five Kingdoms, I love them both so much and, when I realized that they could actually happen in the same universe, I freaked out. I was so excited to write this story.

I also love her magic boots that let her walk on air. 😁

Anyway, my favorite part with her would have to be when she's talking with Warren and he has no memory of her. 🥲 It's SO sad!!! Megan has to hold back all of her emotions so that she doesn't break down in front of him. And then, immediately after THAT, Warren follows her back to the Outskirts, essentially erasing himself from existence on Earth and trapping himself their. Oh... I love Warren. He's such a reckless idiot. 🥰

My favorite part to write was probably Megan trying to adjust to her dark powers. The toll it took on her physically and her not understanding what's happening. It was just so fun to dig into that.

All in all, I really enjoyed this story and I may or may not have plans to do a sequel, which would happen during the Dragonwatch series.

Yes, I know I killed her, but as Adam Jones once said "no one in the Outskirts ever really dies." (Shadow of the Outskirts quote)
