Chapter 35
Jeremy's head hurt. He stared at the white ceiling unblinkingly. Andy should be back by now. He briefly wondered if Ella was okay, but figured that was the reason Andy was taking so long.
He sighed. Ashley's reaction to finding out about Shane was still playing in his head. She was probably still locked in her office and it was all his fault-
No, he thought. It wasn't my fault. It was that monster-child's fault. He closed his eyes at the sudden moment of guilt. The Obeyer must still be in his system. He thought he was going to have more time.
He thought he could warn them this time.
"Shit," He muttered under his breath. His body must be craving it more than last time. Which means he'd have to go to the withdrawals all over again.
The door clicked and Andy walked in. Jeremy opened his eyes and put on his best smile.
"What's the damage, Doc?" Jeremy asked, as his turned to face him.
"You still have a mild concussion," Andrew said, "You should be fine in a few days." Jeremy would be less than fine, but he didn't say anything about the drug or the hell he was going to start experiencing for a second time.
"How's Ella?" Jeremy asked, slowly getting up. Andy wrote something on his clipboard before looking up.
"Broken arm," Andy confirmed, "It was swelling, but I managed to stop it and put her arm in a cast. I'm guessing you guys had some escape," he commented, leaning against the wall.
"Yeah," Jeremy said, not getting into details. He shifted awkwardly on the bed. "Ashley still in her office?" Andy stared at the ground.
"I think she might be throwing things now," Andy told him. The door clicked open and Bonnie walked in.
"Charlie sent me to get you," Bonnie told him, her eyes meeting Jeremy's for a moment. "He's in the computer lab."
Andrew nodded before disappearing behind her. Jeremy remembered how Andy use to follow his orders, but the Immune didn't exist anymore. And whatever these group of kids were, Ashley, Charlie and Johnny were in charge now.
Ashley turned the local library into the new CIA headquarters. Jeremy was impressed. The building had working light, electricity and running water. The school ran on solar power.
Before they told Ashley, she was telling them what had happen in the CIA. From what Jeremy understood, Storm got into some guy's head and finally made him snap. And he killed everyone but Ashley.
And Charlie explained how a mob of zombies had attacked the Immune and how they barely made it out alive.
Bonnie's cough interrupted Jeremy's thoughts. She was still here and she was looking at him.
"Look, I know you don't trust us," She started and Jeremy crossed his arms.
"What gave you that idea?"
"Because of the way you act towards us. Dominic and Alyssa were the same way. I get it. But I just wanted you to know that you can trust us."
"Awesome," Jeremy said, emotionless. He jumped off the bed. "Are we done here?"
