Chapter 2

Jeremy Olsen

I watched as Ella’s eyes lit up as the twins run to her and hug her.

I chuckled little, knowing what was going through her mind. It was going through mind when I first them too.

“How are you guys alive?” Dominic asked, jumping up as he gave the two boys fist pump.

“Long story,” Logan said, smiling. He was probably happy to see them even after I told them I didn’t even know if they were alive.

“It’s better you tell them your story first,” I said, “They want to know what the Immune is.”

Wes smirked. “I’ll start!” He said, pulling Ella so she sat in front of them. It was cute how they still, even after a whole year, have a crush on her. I mean, it made sense.

Ella looked even more beautiful than I remember.

Shut up, Jeremy. She left you, remember? She left you.

*Flashback*

Three months ago

“No,” Ella said, as she crossed her arms. I groaned in frustration. We had been fighting for over an hour, just about Shayna.

“Why don’t you trust her? Shane sent her! If you trusted her, why can’t you?” I yelled, stepping so I was closer to her. I hated fighting with her, I really did. But right now, she wasn’t be reasonable.

“You just met her and you’re gonna follow her into a blind spot that could very much get us all killed!”

“But Shane and Ashley are in there, Ella. We need to go get them-”

“You’re no good to them dead,” She said, coldly.

There was a long silence between, not even Dominic and Alyssa interrupted.

“I won’t stand here and watch you go on a suicide mission,” she said suddenly, walking pass me. She started grabbing her backpack and weapons.

“What are you saying?” I asked. She couldn’t be serious. She wasn’t going to leave us.

But I guess I was wrong.

“I’m leaving,” She announced, making my heart stop. No....

“Ella, you’re overreacting,” Alyssa said, stepping in. Dominic stayed quiet.

She shook her head. “It’s obvious me and Jeremy have different plan. I think we should get everyone that was in the resistance while he thinks we should go to wherever Shayna says and rescue Shane.”

“You can’t go alone,” Alyssa added, hoping that would stop. But it only made everything worse.

“Then I’ll go” Dominic said suddenly, walking next to Ella. All three of us gave him a look.

“What?” Alyssa’s voice cracked as she looked at her ex-boyfriend.

“I’ll go with Ella, that way she won’t be alone.”

And he didn’t have to deal with Alyssa anymore. It was said, but we all know it.

“Really?” Ella said, shocked.

He nodded, getting his backpack.

“You can’t go alone,” He pointed.

She smiled at him. “Thanks,” she said.

We all looked at each other for second. This couldn’t be happening....

“What about us?” I asked, my voice was low. I pretty much had to force the words out.

“There is no us. Not anymore.”

*End of Flashback*

I shook the memory out of my head as I looked at her and Dominic. They both seemed less socially than before. They seemed different, and I wanted to know why. They both had dried cuts on their arms and legs, making wonder exactly how many zombies they fought these past months. I felt a shiver go through my back. The fact that Ella was fighting zombies and I wasn’t there to help her crushed me.

“Well after we got attacked,” Wes said, “We actually passed out, right there in the middle of field. But we didn’t turn. We woke up in car, actually, with a few of the kids that are here now.”

“Wait... You’re Immune?” Ella said, making sense of it.

“Yeah, We were all patched up and a few of the other kids explained it to us,” Logan added. “It’s cool isn’t it?” He asked, excitedly. Somethings never change.

“We have super powers,” They both said at the same time, high fiving each other.

“You’re not the only ones,” I chimed in, clearing seeing that I had to finish the story. “The people that rescued them were all Immune. Well..... 95% of everyone here, right now, is Immune.”

I saw both Dominic and Ella’s jaw drop as they looked at each other. Their reaction was normal. Last time we saw each other, Shane and I were the only one’s Immune.

“They created the Immune to help fight against Dr. Storm and his zombies,” Alyssa said, “All they needed was a leader.”

“And where do you guys come in?” Ella asked, as she brought her knees to her chest. She was cold. Damn it all I wanted to do was go over there and cuddle with her until she was warm and sleeping in my arms. Just like before.

“This is my favorite part!” Wes whispered, laughing. I laughed too, getting Ella to raise her eyebrow.

“Well, you see... Logan and Wes like to set traps out in the forest-”

“Guess who caught in one?” Logan interrupted, then he pointed to me. “I’ll give you a hint.” I heard a chorus of laughs, even though half of everyone here was there and other half already knew this.

"Yah, laugh it up. It's really funny dangling from a tree on one foot."

They laughed again, this time I heard Ella's laugh. I felt myself smile as my heart sped up.

Forget her, Jeremy, forget her.

I wonder if Shayna would get her before I had time to explain everything to them. I wonder if they’re even gonna stay. I felt a sharp pain in my chest at the thought of her leaving me again. This time, I’m not letting her. I’ll tie her up to me if I have too.

Alyssa came up to them handing them two red bracelets.

“Welcome to the Immune,” She said, smiling. It was the first time I’ve ever seen her smile like that. Even if it was half fake, I could tell she was happy to see them again too.

“So what did you guys do for the past three months?” I asked casually. But inside I was dying to know every single detail from the minute she walked away.

Dominic shrugged. “We went to the orphanages but they were abandoned. We think Dr. Storm never put them there in the first place. The list is useless.”

The list. The freaking list that pretty much torn Ella away from me was useless? That’s just freakin’ great.

“Is that all you guys did?” I asked, looking at them.

“We back to North Carolina,” Dominic added, looking at Ella from the corner of his eyes. That was when her body tensed up.

“What happened in back there?” I asked, wanting to know more.

“Nothing,” Ella quickly said, giving Dominic a glare.

“It looks like something,” I said, getting little mad she wouldn’t tell me.

“Just drop it, Olsen,” Dominic said, almost threatening.

“Why won’t you just tell me? I remember clearly we use to tell eachother everything.” I saw her flinch as I brought up our past relationship. Was she going to be like that everytime I talk to her?

Angrily, she stood up as the fire lit up her eyes. “You wanna know? Fine. We went back to NC because that was the first on the list. And you know who we saw? My mother, alive. She was alive and I got to spend a week with her again until I saw her die, in front of me and because of me.”

My face fell as I saw her eyes become watery. I open my mouth to speak when she spun around and walked away without as much as a glance.

I hate when they fight.

I wonder where this chick who broke them up is at.... I should probably add her soon... *wink wink*
