"Fucking finally!" Ruth gushes at the ring on my finger, examining it.
I smile not knowing what to say. I know we're having a baby and we talked about moving in together but that all seemed easy. I never expected him to propose.
Ruth leans in smiling, but keeping her voice down, "I see you properly celebrated."
Her eyes move down to my neck and I smile covering it with my hair. I look around to see if anyone else heard and thank goodness no one did.
Calvin and I came back to my penthouse to grab a few things for me to stay with him at his penthouse. On our way here, Calvin invited Bunny over to talk more about the investigation they want to do.
Apparently, my father doesn't stay in one place after being seen. Sure enough, Ryan's guy checked out the warehouse where Calvin had went and it's now empty.
They both sit on the couch talking a mile a minute. A small smile tugs at my lips as I remember how good Calvin let me take care of his bruises. I kissed every spot softly and traveled down to kiss and suck his--
"I'm so happy for you, Caroline." Roux gives me a tight hug.
"Thank you," I say softly and looking at my ring for the millionth time.
I think it's over the top and not anything I would choose for myself. It's a radiant micro-pave cut diamond with a halo setting ring. But it's totally Calvin's style and I love that.
"Didn't think you had the balls enough to do it, Calvin." She says loud enough to have him turn to look our way in the kitchen and smile.
"Had it on her finger before she even gave me an answer." He smirks smugly.
Bunny chuckles beside him and gets up. Walking over to us, he wraps his arm around my shoulders and pulls me to his chest. Kissing my forehead.
"Our grandma would be happy knowing you're happy." He says it so low, but I wrap my arms around his waist and close my eyes, grateful for him.
Grateful to have a brother who cares, grateful for our grandmother, grateful for all the information he's given me, grateful for wanting to be involved in my life, and grateful for him showing up.
The doorbell rings and Roux claps excitedly saying it's the chef and his crew. I only came to get a few things, but the twins insisted on telling the rest of the family the news about my engagement and they'll be arriving in the next thirty minutes.
In the meantime, while they prepare everything I motion Calvin to follow me up to my room. There's one more thing I need to show him. My nerves are all over the place just thinking about what he's going to say.
He sits on my bed and smiles, "Did you bring me here to do naughty things with you?"
I give him a small smile at his playfulness, "No."
I walk into my closet and grab the box where I put all three files that Bunny gave me. I take a deep breath and meet his eyes with mine. I bite my lip and try to think of how to start this. I think he's realized I'm nervous because he looking at me with concern coloring his eyes.
I sit next to him while holding the box on my lap, "Do you remember we got into that fight and I called you crying and from then on you came every night?"
"Yeah," His voice is soft like he's scared for me to break, and honestly I just might.
I open the box and hand him the picture inside. He takes it and scans over it without saying a word.
I gulp, trying to push the knot in my throat down. "That little girl in the picture is me." My lip trembles and I can't continue to speak.
"Shh, baby. It's okay." He wraps me in his arms and kisses my forehead.
