Chapter 10: Blackout

Carissa's POV

The drive to the airport was so silent, you could hear a pin drop.

We got to the airport, returned our rental car, and started walking towards the entrance.

"Mom, I'm hungry," Katie whined. "Same," I said, joining in with Katie.

Katie and I hang out a lot, so her mom is like a second mother to me.

"Okay, you girls go find something to eat and I'll give you some money." She replied.

"Let's get Starbucks!" I yelled. Im surprised I haven't gained like 100 pounds from having Starbucks so much. Whatever, starbucks is good, and you can't change good.

Katie and I walked to Starbucks across the airport. It was surprisingly a long walk, about 10 minutes. When we got there, there were only a few people in line.

"What are you gonna get?" I asked Katie. "A venti vanilla bean with two pumps of peppermint and java chips." She replied.

Mmmmm that sounds good. Too much for me to remember though.

"I don't know what to get. I'm thinking about a double chocolatey chip, a vanilla bean, a mocha cookie crumble, or maybe a refresher." I said.

"You should get the mocha cookie crumble. Its my favorite." She suggested. "Okay," I agreed.

We walked up to the cashier and ordered our drinks.

We were waiting at the end of the kiosk when everything turned black and a few screams filled my ears.

Katie's POV

"Umm, where'd all the lights go?" I asked Carissa confused.

"Out," She said scaredly.

"But, we didn't even get our starbucks." I complained. "I know." She said.

"Order for Katie!" The lady yelled. "Ooo yay!" I exclaimed

We made our way over to the Starbucks kiosk, our hands in front of us since it was pitch black, when I heard the intercom crackle.

"We are in a blackout right now and we need everyone to board the nearest plane ASAP" it said.

"Wait! We need to find my mom! She wouldn't leave without us!" I told Carissa.

"Let's just stay here and maybe we can find her." She replied.

*15 minutes later*

The lights came on and we were the only ones in the airport.

"Where is everybody?" I asked. "Probably on a plane." Carissa giggled nervously.

"Oh ya." I replied back, not feeling so great.

I was scared, my stomach was in knots, and I don't have a car to drive to get out of here.

"Carissa! What do we do?! I'm scared! I don't know where to go and my mom's on a freaking plane to who knows where!... WHAT DO WE DO?!" I yelled at Carissa, while shaking her shoulders.

"CALM YOURSELF! We'll just call her." Carissa said calmly.

"Oh yeaa." I said.

"Wait she has her phone on airplane mode. That idea was a fail." I retorted.

"Just call Hayes, maybe he can come pick us up." Carissa reassured me.

I nodded my head and called Hayes.

*Phone Conversation*

H: Hello?
K: Hayes?
H: Ya, is everything alright?
K: No, we're at the airport and we were in line for starbucks and the lights went out and we were supposed to board a plane, but we didn't because we thought my mom would stay, but she didn't and now we're the only ones at the airport and i have no idea what to do and I'm scared.
H: Okay, Katie, calm down. Dylan and I will be there in a second. Start walking towards the exit.
K: Ok, Thank you so much.
H: No problemo.

*End of Phone Conversation*

"Hayes and Dylan are coming right now." I said feeling very relieved.

"Okay." Carissa replied, walking towards the exit.

We were at the exit when Hayes and Dylan were in the car.

They both got out of the car with concerned looks and I ran to Hayes. I gave him the biggest hug I could, while standing on my tippy-toes. I hugged him tight, with my arms around his neck and his arms just under my shoulder blade.

"Thank you so much for coming." I whispered into his ear, on the verge of tears.

"Anything for you." He whispered back while I smiled.

So we hopped in the car with our luggage while Hayes drove, illegally of course.
