Chapter 13: Tears

Carissa's POV

"KATIE! GET YOUR BUTT OVER HERE!" I screamed through the wall. "Ugghhhh" I said to myself, frustrated.

Katie walked in all dreamy eyed and her cheeks were flushed. I looked at her weirdly. She snapped out of her trance and said, "What do you need?" "I CANT FIND MY FREAKIN PHONE ANYWHERE!" I shouted.

I had strewn all my clothes across my bed and the ground and dumped out all the contents in my luggage. I couldn't find my phone. It just disappeared.

"Ok Carissa. Don't Worry." Katie said a sly glint in her eye because she knew what I had to say. "Be Happy." I mumbled. "What was that?" Katie asked innocently. "BE HAPPY!" I yelled.

Katie and I had this pact thing that we made up in fourth grade. Whenever one of us was feeling sad we would cheer each other up by saying 'Don't Worry' and the other person saying 'Be Happy'. It seemed cool at the time but now it just gets annoying.

Even though it doesn't really help, we stuck to our promise to always say that. It was our special best friend thing.

After Katie calmed me down about the phone thing, I decided to question her because I knew something was up. Katie was really jittery and wasn't acting, in the least bit, normal.

"Okay, spill it." I ordered her. "What?" Katie asked. She was trying to act like she didn't know what I was talking about. How charming.

"You heard me. Spill it," I said again. "Fine." She replied giving in.

"I was in my room trying to take a nap and then Hayes came in and he jumped on me and started tickling me and I was laughing so hard and then I just got caught in his eyes. Then before I knew it, we were both leaning in and you ruined it by screaming, "KATIE! GET YOUR BUTT IN HERE!" and then it was awkward so I left. Thanks a lot."

"Woah, woah, woah, you and Hayes were-were-" I stuttered. "Yes we were about to kiss, but then you decided to ruin our little scene." Katie interrupted.

I breathed heavily, realizing what she was saying, "And you wanted it to happen!"

"Well, of course I did who wouldn't want to be kissed by the super famous Hayes Grier!" Katie yelled, her temper taking control of her.

Katie's POV

"Is that the only reason you wanted to kiss me, bec-because I'm famous?" Hayes asked. He was standing in the doorway, almost in tears.

I jumped at his voice and my eyes went wide. "What! No! I really like you Hayes, I really do!" I said, desperate for him to forgive me.

"You're just like the rest of my fans! You just want me for my fame!" Hayes yelled, the tears streaming down his face.

"Please Hayes! It was a mistake, I didnt mean it like tha-" I was cut off by Hayes.

"No. Katie, whatever we had is over. I can't believe this. I can't believe you. I thought you were different." and with that he walked out of the room.

I burst out crying and fell onto Carissa's lap. He meant so much to me, if only he knew that I didn't want him for his fame and money. I liked him for him.

Him, the one who welcomed a stranger into his home, the one who was so sweet, the one who comforted me, the one who bought me taco bell.

Carissa stroked my head, trying to soothe me. "I need to talk to him." I said getting up.

"No, give him some time. I'll go talk to Dylan about it." Carissa told me in a calm, but stern voice.

Carissa left and I sat on her bed, with my knees tucked into my chest and my face full of tear stains. "Why do I always have to screw everything up!" I yelled.

I threw my phone across the room and it slammed into the wall. At the moment, I didn't even care if it broke, all I cared about was Hayes. I grabbed fists full of my hair. "Why?" I whispered, choking on my own tears.

I sobbed and sobbed for hours, letting all my emotions out. I never knew that he could mean so much to me. I took him for granted, and just like that, by a couple of words, he slipped right through my fingers.
