Cora's POV
"What kind of awful noise is this?" I laughed at Ted's choice of music. "Hey it TIM McGRAW!" He said as if it was a comeback. I just laughed. We were sitting in Ted's old rusty truck. I was snuggled in the front seat protectively gripping Echo in my arms.
About 15 minutes later we arrived at Rocky Ranch. After we pulled in a man about 30 or so walked over to the truck. Ted and I both jumped out of the truck and I raced around so I was standing beside Ted. The man had light brown hair and ocean blue eyes.
"Hey Ted I have that filly you were asking me about in the barn." The man said.
"Thanks Rocky," Ted smiled at the man or Rocky I guess.
"So you must be Cortina." Rocky said. I cringed I hated my full name. It was the worst part of meeting new people that already knew my name. I always had to correct them.
I half smiled at him. "Ah you can just call me Cora, since you know my Uncle here," I said elbowing him in the ribs. "We are practically friends."
He chuckled, "alright Cora."
By this time we arrived at the barn. He pulled open the large door and ushered us through. His barn was like one of those books where you don't judge the cover or something.
It was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. There were Gold nameplates on red wood doors.
"We show Quarabs," he explained.
"So you are a beginner right?" Rocky asked.
"Yes" I sighed. I never wanted to be a beginner at anything. I am a very competitive person.
He smiled, "don't worry Ted here is the best instructor. Well next to me." He winked and we headed down the concrete hall.
He stopped in front of a stall. "This," he said raising his arm in a show off way. "Is Trixie, she is a quarter horse."
I looked at her, she was oldish looking with a depressed or just bored look on her face. She already had a saddle on and a halter to. I knew most of the basics.
"Lets get her in the arena," Rocky exclaimed.
Once we got inside Rocky brought her up to the mounting block. She pushed her butt away three times till he just gave me a leg up. She pulled a few more weird things till Ted spoke up. "Do you have anything else?"
I sighed, not in a bad way like a relieved sigh.
Two horses later I was super discouraged. Maybe I wasn't meant to have a horse.
"I have one last one," Rocky stated after I dismounted Calico who had tried to buck me off.
"This is Hunter, he is a bit more expensive because he has some good blood lines." Rocky said.
I looked at Ted to see if that was ok and I almost burst out laughing. Little Echo was curled fast asleep in his arms.
The second I got on hunter we clicked. It was a destiny kind of feeling. Black legs, mane and tail complimented his shiny dark brown hair nicely.
Rocky had called him a bay I believe.
Hunter and I had an awesome ride like best ride ever.
At the end I sadly climbed of him. He wasn't way to tall only about the height of my head and I am really short.
"I'll give you 5,000." Ted said.
I almost fainted that was a lot of money.
"Ah 6,500?" Rocky questioned.
