It is a dream of chaos, of a desperate human dream.
In the dream, huge spaceships pass overhead, casting a huge shadow over the city and countless humans dissipate in a blinding halo. Unnamed God cast huge, ghastly shadows across the sky, and the grim faces of insects appear repeatedly in the shattered images.
In a montage of images, the underground bases built by the humans, a myriad of strange and bizarre creatures break free and wreak havoc within the human shield, blood-clad ghosts. Strange and inexplicable stitching monsters, a myriad of strange butterflies flying as a symbol of the end of days. Desperate screams and the last resistance of the human race take place in the ruins of the fallen city, as the ship carrying the human fire finally takes off, only to be destroyed by a beam of light from an alien ship just as it is about to leave the planet.
In the end, the turquoise planet fades into cosmic dust and disintegrates.
This was the end of humanity.
The Federation Central Protection Zone, the base of the Special Events Department.
Kundemin woke up from his dream with a sweaty headache.
He had had this dream again, this dream of his last life.
Sitting up from his bed, Kundemin took out his cigarette and smoked it in a dishevelled manner, hunched over in exhaustion as the smoke drifted around him. It had been three or four days since he had been reborn, but he still couldn't get over the end of the human race. Feeling that he should have died in the planet-wide disaster instead of living here.
The aftermath of his trauma has left Kundemin in a state of mental distress for the last few days, with his mind replaying the scenes of humanity's demise over and over again. Especially that of the nameless ancient god who was responsible for the final extinction of humanity and whom he dared not even look at in his dreams.
As the name came to his mind, Kundemin immediately slapped himself hard in the face, waking up his unconscious mind and completely forgetting his imminent recollection of the ancient god's appearance.
God is untouchable, indescribable, unrememberable.
Once he had depicted what he would look like after his resurrection, he would sense it, and that all-knowing, all-powerful and terrifying being would most likely follow the timeline and find him here. As a memory bearer, he himself would probably be contaminated by the aura of Ancient God and eventually become a family member of the ancient gods without human consciousness.
The only point of his rebirth was to change the end of humanity, not to let it be discovered by the ancient gods beforehand, which would make his rebirth pointless. Kundemin had recently tried his best to restrain his impulse to remember, erasing much information about the ancient gods from his memory. Even remembering not to construct them in his nightmares in order to ensure that he would not be discovered by the ancient gods.
In his previous life, he had already broken through the limits of human mind power to be able to forget information about Ancient God. If he had been an ordinary person, he would have sunk into an endless state of terror and madness forever, unable to wake up, and even maintaining basic human consciousness would have been a luxury.
This rebirth was a desperate attempt to fight to death before the extinction of humanity, and Kundemin would not allow anything to happen again because of himself. It was late at night, and after half a nightmare, he had no desire to go back to sleep, so he got dressed and prepared to go to his office to continue reviewing the archives.
After returning from this rebirth, he found that the situation in the world today was very different from his previous life and that things were deteriorating much faster. Ghosts and monsters had become more active than ever, springing up everywhere in the last year. All the Federation's protected zones were exhausted by this, while the Empire was so busy that both sides no longer had any desire to fight each other.
