Hunter's POV

I hadn't spoken to Jana all weekend. For the first time in my life, I was excited for school. I confidently walked in the doors and to where my locker was located, which happened to be on the other side of the school from Jana's. After I unloaded my books, I quickly walked to Jana's locker.

Jana was standing facing her locker. She stood on the tips of her toes trying to fit a binder between two books. I wrapped my arms around her waist from behind and kissed her cheek. "Hey beautiful," I whispered.

She dropped her binder on the ground and turned around, wrapping her arms around my neck, all on one swift motion. "Hey you," she said, kissing me. "Do you feel better?"

"Yeah, kind of," I responded, sighing and cupping her cheeks with my hands. "That doesn't matter, though. It'll heal soon, just for him to do it again."

"It doesn't have to be that way. Hunter, you can stand up to him. You have every right to stand up for yourself." She ran her hands up and down the sides of my torso. She bunched up the sides of my tee shirt in her hands and kissed my lips.

"Tell her you love her," I told myself over and over. I had to let her know.

Jana's POV

Hunter had pulled me into a hug. I rested my head on his shoulder as he whispered in my ear.

I kissed behind Hunter's ear and as I pulled away noticed Josie and Chris walking hand in hand. The two people I wanted to avoid most were the people that would ruin Hunter and I's moment.

Josie's mouth dropped open. I did my best to ignore her gaze as I kissed Hunter's lips. As we pulled away, I rested my forehead on his. "Here we go," I said against his warm lips. I kissed them once more before turning to face Josie.

"What's going on?" Josie asked, glancing at a puzzled Chris. Josie and I weren't on the best terms right now.

"Um, exactly what it looks like," I responded, surprising myself with how unusually sassy I was.

Hunter wrapped his arm around me. He and Chris exchanged an awkward glance. "Oh, did it not cross your mind to let your best friend know you have a boyfriend?" she asked angrily.

"It definitely didn't cross yours when you did the same thing for a month," I snapped.

"Ladies, maybe you shouldn't-" Hunter started, placing his hands on my shoulders and gently massaging them.

"I can't believe I was ever friends with you," Josie said, grabbing Chris and walking away.

My breathing became unsteadily fast and I couldn't control the tears anymore. I ran down the hall and out the door. I had lost my best friend. What would I do without her?

Hunter was chasing after me. "Jana, wait! Talk to me! I'm here for you," he was calling.

"I can't," I responded through tears and freezing wind. I ran through the parking lot and jumped into my car before Hunter had the chance to join me.

I drove out of the parking lot. I drove down random roads until I had no clue where I was. Hours had passed and there was no way I was going back there.

I flew down a road into a neighborhood foreign to me. I didn't bother to check how fast I was going. I felt the vehicle spiral out of my control. I spun into a ditch, crashing into a sign on the way. The car flipped upside down and my body flew through the windshield. That was the last thing I remember before the world turned black.
