Jana's POV

The following week, Hunter was back at school. All throughout his trip to Louisiana, I called and texted him countless times but he never responded. I had to talk to him after reading that letter.

I searched the halls for Hunter as I approached his locker. Sure enough, he stood there with his back facing me and his front facing his locker, emptying books into his organized stacks.

"Hey," I whispered, not allowing the tears forming in my eyes to escape.

He turned around slowly. "Jana Turner," he whispered back, no glimmer in his eye and no excitement in his voice.

"I, um...I read your letter and I...," I stuttered. "Okay, look. I'm so sorry. I feel like such a jerk for everything now. I love you so much and the truth is, I never stopped loving you. I just got frustrated and didn't understand what was going on. And I'm really sorry you had to go through that. You don't deserve it, Hunter. Not at all. You're absolutely amazing and the sweetest person I know. I love you," I confessed through tears.

"So you're not mad at me anymore?" he asked in a quiet, raspy voice.

"Not at all," I responded, gently cupping his cheek and sweeping loose strands hair out of his eyes with my fingers.

"I love you Jana." Hunter wrapped his arms around my waist. "I love you so much." I cried into his neck as he softly rubbed my back. The halls were now clear and everyone had left for first period, but we didn't care. We stayed in our embrace.

Hunter gently pressed his warm lips to mine and I could tell he had been wanting that kiss since the minute we broke up. Honestly, I had been wanting it too.

I backed away slightly so that my eyes met his. "Does this mean we're back together?" I asked hopefully.

"Here's the thing, Jana. I love you. I want to be with you. But I'm moving, and long distance relationships just don't work. I would say you should come with me, but you need to live out your dream of going to college here in Nashville and becoming the author you've always wanted to be," Hunter responded.

"W-what? What do you mean you're m-moving?" I asked, shocked.

"I'm moving back to Louisiana."
