"No no," you say, "I- I really should keep working, this deadline is really tight."

Maria gives you a worried expression, "But you're obviously hungry, it's not good to starve yourself, you know"

"I know," you reassure, "it's just this is REALLY important"

"Ok, Lucas... whatever you say", with that, Maria slowly walks away back to the kitchen, her tail drooping sadly behind her.

You feel bad to see her like this, but you can hang out with her tomorrow, right? "Yeah, tomorrow," you think, "I'll spend all day with her then."

You get back to work on your laptop, you work tirelessly through the rest of the afternoon and late into the night, you do eventually finish your work, but at the cost of one of the few days you have off for the holidays, the time you're supposed to be spending with loved ones, and yet all you've done on your "day off" is work and disappoint one of the people who love you the most.

You lay back in your bed, realizing you're wasting your life on work, you're so caught up in impressing your bosses and meeting their bottom lines, you've forgotten what REALLY matters in life.

Depressed by this realization, you lay your head on your pillow, "I hope I can make it up to Maria", you think, "I'll find some way to fix this...", and with these thoughts still lingering in your mind, you drift off to sleep.
