"I'm impressed," you answer honestly "never took you for such a rebel, Maria."
Maria lets out an awkward laugh, you take a drink of the wine and recoil at the taste, "You weren't lying when you said you only drank the cheap stuff"
You look through your parent's wine cooler and exchange the bottle for a finer wine, "Ahh, here we go, now take a sip of this", you take out the cork and hand Maria the wine, she studies it for a second, before taking a swig from it.
"Ok ok! Slow down, I said take a sip, not chug down the entire bottle," you take the bottle back from her and drink a bit of it as well, you head out of the kitchen and plop down onto the living room couch, Maria follows suit.
"You know Maria, it's good to be back home, city life sucks" you let out a long sigh and drink more wine, "I wish I could just stay here longer."
"Well, why don't you? I'm sure the people back in the office can survive without you."
You chuckle, "I'm not sure if they can, honestly, sometimes I feel like I'm working with a bunch of headless chickens"
Maria motions for the bottle, you hand it over and she drinks more, "Why do you even need to work at some random office a thousand miles away, anyway, can't you work at your dad's company?"
You wave your hand in disagreement, "Apparently not! Dad says that I need to learn how to 'be a man', make my own money without any help."
"And being a man means you have to leave home, work some boring office job, and not call us for an entire year?" Maria questions.
You clear your throat, "Well mom and dad usually call me, so there's never been a reason to call here."
"Oh... so you just haven't called me in an entire year," Maria looks down disappointed.
You motion for the wine and she complies, you drink more of it, "Umm, listen, Maria, it's just so hard to contact you, I mean the only direct line of communication is by landline, and no one uses those these days."
"You couldn't have just called one of your parents and have them give me the phone?" Maria questions.
You rub the back of your neck, "They're always so busy, and I never know when they're home, it would just be too much of a hassle."
"I see," she says softly.
You finish off the rest of the wine and stand up, you walk over to the radio and turn it up. Maria turns around and looks at what you're doing. Feeling the groove of the music, you shuffle across the room and dim the lights, having no idea how to actually dance, you start doing whatever feels right.
Maria giggles, "What are you doing?"
"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm dancing in the dark, just like the song says!" you continue "dancing".
Maria watches you for a moment before standing up and joining you. You both dance separately, just feeling the music, soon Maria makes her way over to you, and bumps into you with her hip, she holds out her hand and says, "Care to dance with me?"
You nod and she grabs your hands, she guides your movements to keep you with the rhythm of the song, "I haven't taken dancing lessons since we were kids, I didn't know you kept up with them."
She shrugs, "Gives me something to do, but usually, I don't have a partner," she smiles, "must be my lucky night."
She pulls out away from you, still keeping one hand connected, Maria spins back into you, causing your arm to wrap around her, you both look into each other's eyes, "This might be the alcohol talking," you admit, "but you look beautiful tonight, Maria"
Maria inches closer to your face, she hesitates, before finally kissing you, you accept and passionately make out. As the song ends, so does the kiss, still wrapped in your arms she says, "Will you stay just a little bit longer, for me?"
You smile, "Yeah, anything for you, Maria."
End.
