You let out a deep sigh, "Yeah... I see where you're coming from, I- I'm sorry I overreacted, but you guys are right, she would be better off someplace else."

You let out a small chuckle, "You know, I'm not sure why I was so worried in the first place, you know, thanks for looking out for Maria's well being after all, huh, well Maria, I guess it wasn't  so bad after all..." you finally look over at Maria and see her face firmly buried in her hands, "Maria?"

She looks up at you, tears streaming down her face, "I trusted you, and what did you do, you thank them... they just FUCKED me and you thanked them!"

"Maria! There's no need for that kind of language!" your mom scorns.

Maria bursts out in nervous laughter and then immediately starts hyperventilating.

You go over to Maria and try to comfort her, "Don't touch me!" she yells, "You've done enough..."

"Listen, Maria," you start, "I know this may seem bad at first, but my parents make some really good points, you did say they weren't treating you like you wanted, well this is your chance to start over, live with someone who will really appreciate you."

"I just wanted to be with you, you idiot..." Maria says tearfully.

"Maria... you can't live with me, my apartment is barely big enough for just me, and I work so much, we would never really see each other."

"And what about when he gets a girlfriend or wife," your mom adds, "there's no way she would be happy to learn some other woman is just living in his apartment, freeloading off of him. Think of how your actions affect other people Maria, you're being very selfish."

Maria looks at your mom in utter defeat, "I'm the one being selfish...? Oh God, just finish this so my nightmare will end already."

"Maria... I know things look hopeless right now, but trust me, it's all going to be alright," you say.

Having heard enough, Maria gets up and rushes off to her room. You get up to stop her but your mom grabs your arm and slowly shakes her head. You slowly sit back down.

Your dad clears his throat, "I think I'll call the buyer tomorrow and tell him we're ready to sell."

You silently nod. With the conversation having died down, you head back to your room, exhausted, you flop down on your bed and close your eyes. You're conflicted, but you know at the end of the day, you're doing this for Maria, and this is the best thing for her. With these comforting thoughts in your mind, you drift off to sleep.

The next day quickly arrives, you get ready to see Maria off, and head into the living room, there you see your mom and dad, Maria looks disheveled, she's carrying a suitcase and backpack with her. You all hear a vehicle pull up in the driveway.

"That must be him," your dad says.

With that, everyone makes their way outside and an old man gets out of a truck, he waves at everyone as he approaches, "Hello!" he says warmly.

"Mr. Jones!" your dad shakes the man's hand, "Everyone, this is Eugene Jones, he's the kind gentleman who agreed to buy Maria off of us.

The man looks at Maria and gives her a small wave, "Hello sweet pea."

Maria stays silent.

"Sorry," your dad apologizes, "she's a bit upset having to move away, I hope you can understand."

The man chuckles a little, "Oh it's quite alright, you'll love it at the ranch, my grandchildren are just dying to meet you, Maria"

Maria continues to say nothing.

Your dad clears his throat, "Well umm, anyway, say your goodbyes Lucas."

You hug Maria, "I know it seems like you're being abandoned, but this is the right thing for you, you can't see it yet, but I know you'll be happier with him." Maria doesn't hug you back, and when you let go, she doesn't even look at you.

The man quietly hands your dad an envelope, opening it up, your dad scans its contents for a moment before closing it back up and stuffing it in his back pocket.

"You're doing us a real service Mr. Jones," your dad says, "Maria's been a part of our family for a long time now, and it just breaks our heart to see her go, but we know you'll treat her better then we can anymore."

The man puts his right hand on his chest and raises his left hand, "You have my word, I'll treat her just like she were my own daughter."

Everyone except Maria smiles at this.

"Well, I must be going," the man says, "come along Maria, it's time for you to see your new home."

The man gently takes Maria's hand and they go to his truck, upon entering the truck Maria raises her head and looks at you one last time, with a wave, you bid her farewell. The truck drives out onto the road and it soon disappears from view.

Happy you made the right decision, you all re-enter the house, wanting to see what Maria left behind, you head into her room. You look around, and to your surprise, it's kind of a mess in here, you immediately notice some ripped-up paper on the ground, upon closer inspection, you realize it's a photo of you and Maria together when you two were younger.

You let out a deep sigh, "I love you, Maria," you think, "I just hope someday you realize that too."

End.
