You slowly get out of bed and creep over to the door. Not knowing what's on the other side, you take a deep breath and quickly open the door. Maria's standing there in her pajamas, her hand is raised as if she is about to knock on the door.
She quickly looks at your face and jumps back in surprise, "Lu- Lucas, wha- what are you doing here?!"
"I sleep here," you remind her, "why are you standing outside my room?"
"Well... I, uh...", Maria is at a loss for words.
You take this time to poke fun at her, "Don't tell me you're scared of the dark, aren't cats supposed to be nocturnal creatures?"
Maria looks flustered and looks down at her feet, "Yea- yeah, but I'm still mostly human you know..."
You chuckle a little at her expense, "So why were you standing at my door? Don't tell me you're ACTUALLY scared of the dark"
Maria pushes her index fingers together in embarrassment, "Umm yeah, I'm scared of the dark..."
You look at her perplexed, you've never known her to be scared of the dark, "Well what do you want me to do? Find you a night light or something?"
"Actually... I was wondering if I could sleep in your room?"
You're surprised by her question, you stand there almost speechless, "You want to sleep with me?!"
"Ha- hey! Don't say it like that, you're like my brother you know, so don't make it weird! J- just let me sleep in your bed for tonight, and tomorrow, I'll find a nightlight, I swear!"
You ponder her request for a moment but finally decide to relent, "Ok, you can sleep in my room tonight, but just tonight ok, tomorrow I'm taking you to the store to get a nightlight
Maria jumps for joy and hugs you, "Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!"
Before you can even hug her back, she rushes past you and jumps onto your bed. You close the door and turn around, Maria's already pulled the sheets up to her chin and has a big smile on her face. You turn off the lights and make your way to your bed.
"Wait, you're not going to get cat hair all in my bed, are you?" you question.
"Of course not," Maria assures, "I groom myself every day!"
Rolling your eyes, you get into bed, pull the covers over yourself, and turn away from her.
"This is kinda exciting," Maria whispers, "it reminds me of when we used to build pillow forts and then sleep in them when we were little"
You chuckle a little, "Yeah, those were good times".
You hear Maria purr, and in the distance, the soft sound of the waves violently crashing against the cliff face outside.
"Lucas... I- I love you, goodnight!"
"Yeah, love you too Maria, night", you reply nonchalantly.
And with that, you doze off to sleep.
End.
