SONG OF THE DAY :
started - fern.. . . . . .
somehow, chia was already getting used to the couch-sleeper.
she wasn't anymore bothered with his initial yells every time he showers because the water's too cold and her heater was broken. or with him arguing that he should be the one washing dishes every damn time as if he was a necessary part of the household. not even with the random shirtless encounters (she liked telling him she's seen better).
he did not appear bothersome to her eyes anymore.
now, she found herself getting up early in the morning, preparing both herself and couch-sleeper (who didn't really sleep) cups of strong coffee.
"why are you up at 5am?" youngho asked, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
"i could ask you the same thing."
he muttered a thank you when she set the mug on the table which he used as his study table. she then sat on the chair on the other side of the table, observing.
"what do you do?" she piped up out of the blue, shocking him at first since he hadn't heard any sound that loud since six hours earlier.
"huh?"
"what's your job?"
"photography?"
"yeah sure." she held up one of his heavy hardbound books with black blank covers and gold text on their spines. "photographer who reads civil law."
"should've made your question cleared then. i'm in law school, so it's not really a job. break ends in a few days so i'm cramming."
"wow. law school?" she pointed it out as if the labels of his books didn't already make it overly obvious. "i hate you."
he narrowed his eyes.
chia continued, "you're everything my parents ever pushed me to be. 'tall male college graduate pursuing law in seoul'. only thing i got to give them was tall and in seoul. wasted my SNU scholarship after all to join some stupid band full of junkies."
the silence afterwards was loud.
to lighten up her mood (or at least attempt to) that was ruined before the sun shone, he said, "maybe you wanna take me home to your parents someday?"
"absolutely not."

"you said SNU? what major?"
"family studies."
"are you okay?"
"is there anything that makes me not okay because of my major?"
"don't the people choose that have familial trauma ninety-nine percent of the time?"
"damn . . . you're right."

"what lawyer are you gonna be?"
their entire time together felt like some interview because the whole time, they barely did anything but toss questions and answers. often quietly stare too.
not leaving his eyes from the book this time, youngho replied, "economic."
she snickered. "that's so lame."
"lame?"
"i mean, everyone goes law to avoid math, then you just decide to choose the one with the most of it. think it makes you quirky?"
he chuckled at her explanation on why economic law was lame. even nodded in agreement.
"wasn't in it for the fun anyway. i just wanna get paid high."
that made her shrug. "fair enough."
