CHAPTER TWO
Summer Cleaning and Errands

It was only daybreak when Aurora got out of bed due to the annoying constant ringing of her alarm. She groaned as she switched it off and threw the bed sheet over her face. Before her eyes could close and she could fall asleep once again, there was a soft knock on her bedroom door.

"We've got a long day ahead of us, Aurora, get up now," Deborah said in a quiet voice once she had peaked her head through the open cracked door, switching the lights on in the room.

A low sigh escaped Aurora's lips as she kicked the sheet off and sat up. She rubbed her eyes, squinting only just a bit until she adjusted to the light. She yawned as she stretched out her arms above her head.

"Once you're done doing your bed and getting ready, start the garden," Mrs. Diggory said before leaving.

This is what I get for telling her that I should stay productive during the summer. As if I don't already have so much on my hands already. But I didn't mean it literally. I wouldn't want to wake up while it's still dark out and do things I'm not at all fond of. Doing the garden? I hate doing the garden and she knows that. I hate picking out weeds and de-gnoming the garden.

Grabbing a bucket from the shed in the backyard, Aurora started to work with the weeds farthest from the house. With every weed she came across, she pulled them out by the taproot and tossed them into the bucket beside her. One by one, working her way around the house, she ripped the weeds from the ground and got rid of every single one she saw. By the time she finished, the sun was already out and shining down like never before.

On the way back to the shed to leave the bucket of weeds, she heard little screeching voices. At first, she decided to ignore it, thinking it was a bug flying around her, but when she tripped as if she had hit a rock and dropped the weeds on the ground, she noticed it was not a bug but rather the garden gnomes trying to grab her attention.

"Not you too," Aurora grumbled as she picked herself up from the ground. "Have the Weasleys kicked you lot out of their garden already?" she spoke to one as she lifted them from the ground. "You understand me, don't you? We had a deal yesterday morning, didn't we?"

The gnome shook its head and stretched its arms out, giving a motion for Aurora to hand him something. Already knowing what they wanted, she put him back down and told them no.

"Go away," she firmly said. "I've not got any jellybeans this time. You've all had your share, let me have mine."

One of the other gnomes ran up to her shoe and pulled on the tied lace, untying it, and yanked each end with all their force.
