CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
The Lion vs The Serpent

The air was icy and the frosty grass crunched under weight, but there was no wind at all and the sky was a uniform pearly white, which meant that visibility would be good without the drawback of direct sunlight in the eyes. Hundreds of footsteps mounted the banked benches of the spectators' stands now. Some people were singing, though their words were unknown due to the amount of noise filling the stadium.

"Now, who's it going to be, Rory? The Gryffindor team or Slytherin team?" Ernie asked loudly over the cheers as the Gryffindor team flew out to the field.

"Gryffindor," Aurora answered prior to cheering on the Gryffindor team that had just stepped out onto the field on their brooms. "That's an obvious answer, why'd you bother asking?"

"I thought maybe since you're now friends with Malfoy–"

Not needing to hear the end of that sentence, she quickly began to deny, "Why would you say that? What made you assume that he and I are friends? Surely it's not because I'm friends with nearly the whole lot of them. I'm only acquainted with him, that's all there is to it."

"You're friends with Parkinson? When did that happen?" Zacharias joined the conversation, stepping in between Susan and Aurora.

"We're not exactly friends, friends," she responded. "I can tolerate her a lot better than Malfoy. She's gotten quite friendly and civil with me than she ever had and ever will."

"That's beside the point," Susan mumbled.

"Right," Zacharias agreed. "The point is, you and Malfoy must've become civil if you were last seen with him before you ended up in the Hospital Wing the other day."

"What?" Aurora turned her full undivided attention to him. Had she heard him right? She was last seen with Malfoy? "What do you mean I was last seen with Malfoy? I think I would remember vividly if I were with him. There was no reason for me to be with him that night."

"Not if he obliviated your mind," Susan argued.

"It's what we're thinking," Hannah said, wedging in between Ernie and Aurora. "We believe that Malfoy had a run-in with you that night. He saw you and perhaps you two were arguing. The argument got pretty heated and he stunned you out of anger. He didn't want you getting back at him, so he obliviated your mind in order to erase all traces of him. He looked highly suspicious to me when he and I crossed paths. You see, I was on my way to my dormitory since my shift of patrolling the halls was over. We sort of froze as I looked at you in his arms. I didn't know what to think. When I asked what he was doing with you unconsciously, he didn't say much to me. He only just asked that I take you to the Hospital Wing."
