The specialists smiled all the way through the conversation as the fairies told them what they were experiencing in the blackout and the cute nickname that followed. Since it was getting late everyone bid goodbye but Elgan stayed a while, being noticed by a specialist.
He spoke a few words but Elgan didn't seem to hear it, spaced out while looking at the patterns of the water in front of him. But then zoned back in, looking at the familiar face and smiled. Elgan awkwardly smiled. "Hi uhhh...Ca...Cal...
"Conall." The specialist chuckled and Elgan hid his face in his palm. "Good Arcadia, I'm terrible with names...I'm so sorry."
The young man cackled again, looking at the water as well. "You heard my name just once today; I don't blame you." Elgan shrugged and tugged on the fabric of his jeans. Conall seemingly picked up on his demeanor. "Are you okay? You're drifting off a lot, is something bothering you?"
Again, the fairy's shoulder went up and down, glancing at the person next to him on the picnic blanket. "I just- I don't really know. I can't believe how stupid I was to not pack the flashlights. We don't even have flashlights anywhere else in the cabin. What if a blackout happens again? I feel a little useless..."
"Everyone used their phone's light, what about it?" Conall picked up some sand and gently moved it in his hand and Elgan pulled up his knees more. "My mind- I'm all over the place. I'm mentally absent a lot and it troubles people. Some said I'm burdensome."
The specialist snorted almost inaudibly. "They're weak, I've seen people with bigger ADHD problems yet they were very loved and appreciated and capable of doing amazing things. You're not a burden to anyone, believe me."
Elgan smiled and shook his head. "I'm so sorry, I'm just rambling and venting here to a stranger. You must think I'm really impolite." Conall too shook his head and pushed the sand off his fingers, dusting off his hands. "Well, I'm Conall Daniels. My mom is from Linphea and my dad from earth, I grew up on earth but trained my powers well until I could join Red Fountain my mother always told me about. I not only specialize on nature magic but also on tracking using my powers. Hm, what else? Well, I'm trans, which was kinda really hard growing up on earth. Believe me, the magical dimension is so much more progressive."
His introduction made Elgan laugh, rubbing his knees. "Well, my family and I live on Eraklyon, just my mom, dad, my little sister and my little brother. My brain might not soak up lots of stuff but I'm obsessed with zodiacs – earth zodiacs that is, and if you tell me when, where and what time exactly you were born I might be able to tell if you have the potential to become a millionaire. What are you doing in your free time?"
Conall turned his upper body to him and clasped his hands before again taking sand in his hands and showing Elgan the little dune in his hands. The sorcerer closed his eyes and Elgan examined his facial features before looking back at the sand in his hands when a tiny daisy sprouted and made its hard way to the top of the dune. The fairy's mouth formed a big "O" and he clapped joyfully. "Wow! That's so cool! Do you need sand or earth to do it?"
Wiping off the sand Conall smiled upon Elgan enjoying his magic, lifting a hand towards the fairy's head. "May I?" Elgan nodded and Conall softly grazed his temples, the fairy feeling a soft plant ribbon wrapping around the upper half of his head. He put out his phone and watched in real time as a daisy flower crown grew around his head. Conall gently dropped his hand and smiled at his result. "I have to practice more, one day I wanna be able to conjure powerful spells and make entire trees grow from my mind without having to touch the ground..."
Elgan carefully touched the flowers and smiled at Conall. "Thanks...and thanks for...listening. You're a grea-" he couldn't finish the sentence as the right side of his chest started to glow, a silvery pin forming. Conall watched in awe as Elgan touched his newly attained Charmix and he laughed out of joy.
