"Thanks for cleaning the kitchen for me again," Sage walked out of her room to see Aurora standing at the sink washing dishes while listening to R&B music.
Aurora was at her restaurant all day, met with a prospective couple who wants her to cater their wedding, went grocery shopping, and still came home to cook dinner for the two of them.
"I don't mind. I like doing dishes," she rinsed another pot before putting it on the dish rack to dry. "And I can tell you ain't been feeling good the last few days."
"I feel fine," Sage opened up the freezer and took out half a pint of cookie dough ice cream.
"You've barely talked to me in days. And for you who loves to talk, that's not normal. And I been wanting to ask you what's wrong, but you always get mad when I press you."
"I've just been tired," she opened the silverware drawer to get a spoon.
"You always say that. But what's really going on?"
"Nothing Ro," she mumbled under her breath. "Damn."
"I just wanna make sure you're aight. Especially since you—"
"I have a paper to finish writing," she cut her sister off. She took her ice cream carton and was about to head back to her room.
"Wait," Aurora stopped her from leaving the kitchen.
Aurora dried her hands in a kitchen towel and went over to the cabinet where all of Sage's prenatal and daily vitamins were.
"Why you ain't been taking these?" She shook them out into her hand.
"I be forgetting," Sage crossed her arms over her chest.
"You're anemic Sage. The last thing you should be doing is not taking your vitamins. Especially the prénatals and iron," she held them out to her.
"My God Ro," she groaned, but still took the pills from her anyway and accepted the glass of water Aurora poured for her.
"You want a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby, right?"
"Good night Aurora," Sage rolled her eyes and turned on her heels to leave the kitchen. She made it to her bedroom and closed the door a little harder than usual, creating a dramatic slamming sound.
"I'm just gonna blame the hormones," Aurora took a deep breath, turning back to the dishes in the sink. "Because she musta forgot this is my fucking house she stayin at— rent fucking free."
Aurora finished cleaning the kitchen and decided to get ready for bed early since she had such a long day. She had just stepped out of the shower when her phone starting ringing and Diamant's contact picture flashed on the screen.
