Chapter 17
"What's your name cadet?"
"Y/n, sir."
"Very well, y/n you'll be helping me with the demonstration."
The austere man stood ahead of you, before firmly pulling you to the front by the wrist. Your tired eyes bored into his lifeless ones, as you got into your fighting stance.
It's been a few days since you joined the Survey Corps, a few days since you began trying to overcome all the past difficulties, a few days since you started the vigorous and tedious training. Most of which consisted only memorizing and going over the past expeditions' plans.
"In this situation, when both sides are weaponless, what would you do?" Levi asks, folding his sleeves tidily.
"You attack first."Connie says.
"No. Never," The captain retorts, "It's always a better alternative to predict your opponent's moves, than to be predicted." He beckons you to attack him.
'If I pretend to kick his face, he'll most likely reach out for my leg,'
You cautiously make your way over to the small man, arms shielding your chest, and your h/c locks of hair covering half of your vision. You strained your right leg's muscle before lifting it and swinging it halfway towards Levi's head.
Just as predicted his right hand flew up to his side cheek, expecting to grasp your foot. You placed your foot on his stomach that was left defenseless, before pushing him and sending the captain stumbling to the ground.
"Nice.." Jean said.
Before you could even prepare for your second attack, you sensed a great animosity rushing through as you received a brazen blow at your legs, making you fall down your face at the pungent pain. You rapidly pulled out your arms to prevent faceplanting and consequently pushed yourself off the ground with a backflip.
You groaned in pain while clutching at your leg, feeling as if your wound was reopening again.
Leaving you no time to acknowledge Levi's location, he gave you a last kick on the stomach. The terse force pushed you down the butt, completely defeated. He pressed one of his feet down your knee, while kneeling down near your face.
"I win." He whispered with stoic eyes. You screamed in pain as he pressured even harder your injured knee.
"HEY! Careful with her knee." Mikasa warned, grabbing Levi's attention for a slight second before he deepened his foot.
"Tough luck-" He spat.
You gritted your teeth and delivering a BEAUTIFUL punch on the captain's face. He seemed unfazed, though a bit pissed off, his cheekbone now red.
"Don't try that technique with me, amateur." He said, finally allowing you to stand up. With your now throbbing knee, you felt a great force lift you up. You looked up and met Bertholdt's brown eyes, somewhat cordial and filled with worry.
"I hope you understand that your help is superfluous to me." You groaned as he placed your arm around his shoulder.
"Why won't you just let me help you?" Bertholdt sighed.
"Because when I did ask for your help, you weren't there for me. No, actually you repudiated." He looked away, his eyebrows creasing downwards. You knew he was concealing something behind all these mixed signs, but they were simply too confusing.
"You can go now," Another voice butted in, your other arm circling Jean's shoulder.
"But-"
"You should go now," Bertholdt releases your arm, walking off. You limp to a farther corner, Jean helping all the while.
