Chapter 7
Connie soon left you after fleeing to assist Armin, to chase Mikasa who was recklessly slaughtering Titans whenever their murdering hands attempted to impede her. You fastened your pace, finally reaching Jean and the rest of the squad.
"Oh God! Help, anybody!" An unknown voice boomed, subsequently followed by other screams. You squinted your heavy eyelids, trying to restlessly ignore all the mayhem behind your back. Every breath you took seemed to not be enough as you inhaled and exhaled air furiously.
You leaned onto your upper body, resting both blades next to your limp thighs as you dodged building after building, fueled with nothing but pure fear of being the next one to be grabbed by filthy hands and swallowed down to a vast stomach.
Jean demanded the group to rest upon a building as three titans bloomed from every angle. You gazed at his restrained expression, Jean's golden eyes looked back at you with a worried look. Instead of writhing your neck away from his long face, you maintained still and blinked.
Finally you broke the stare, alarmed at how close the titans stood ahead. Your heartbeat kept pumping at a constant pace, not a bit threatened by the soon to be dead titans. You leaned onto your right leg, waiting for someone to slice off the first titan and allow the team to move on.
Their loud footsteps now trembled the building you stood upon. A tall brunet appeared from within the squad, raising both arms and activating his maneuver gear, attaching it to one of the few creatures. You kept looking attentively at the man as he was about to sharply turn to face the titan's nape when the unexpected happened. His body was rapidly grasped by a big pair of hands, fingers embracing his sides tightly and squeezing the life out of the unfortunate human.
A strong hold kept you from turning away or shutting your eyelids as the titan swallowed the man down its throat, not wasting a single second. Two other comrades came flashing towards the titans, in an attempt to revenge their friend's death.
"Stop it!" You tried yelling, letting go of your blades and raising your right hand as if grasping them away from those heartless murderers.
You blink once. One down. You blink twice. Two down.
Silence now engulfs the whole environment, except the vicious sounds of those creatures as they swallow or munch onto their snacks. You hear Jean release a heavy sigh as his shoulders lump forward, together with half of his body.
You run towards him, grabbing hold of his shoulders and keeping Jean from falling down the roof. Glossy tears are now at the corner of his hazel eyes, threatening to shed at any moment.
"Jean." You scrutinize his thick throat as his adam's apple bobs up and down.
"...Yeah,"
"We need to go." You say, covering your expression with a layer of stoicalness. As much as you loathed seeming unemotional, especially after three deaths, you knew better than allowing your eyes to prick with a waterfall of tears.
He shakes of your grip, raking his hair with calloused fingers. 'Now's not the time to go all sentimental Kirschtein.'
After munching onto the last piece of flesh from your fellow cadets, the titans return their utter attention to the group. Blood stains their plum lips as they start smiling wickedly in a menacing way. You become impatient by every second, waiting for Jean's command together with the rest of the squad.
"Excuse me to interrupted what the hell you are doing Kirschtein, but if we don't move our asses we will soon turn into their dessert." A nearby girl exclaimed, swatting her arms towards the sky in desperation.
